The List of Native American tribes to which User:Harmil redirected this article, starts at Acaxee, leaving out...

  • A’Ukre, → Kayapó.
  • Ababá, Tupian, rio Corumbiara, Mato Grosso.
  • Abaeté,
  • Abaré,
  • Abatihe,
  • Abenaki. Tribes: Amaseconti, Androscoggin, Kennebec (Norridgewock), Maliseet, Ouarastegouiak, Passamaquoddy, Patsuiket, Penobscot, Pigwacket (Pequawket), Rocameca, Sokoki, Wewenoc (Wawenoc).
  • Abitana-Waninân (Huanian, Abitana-Huanyam, Huanham, Huanyam, Abitâna-Wanyam),
  • Aboba,
  • Acarapis

as well as the detail included in this article on the Acaxee: "Acaxee, Taracahitian, Sinaloa, Durango. Subdivisions: Acaxee, Sabaibo, Tebaca, Papudo, Tecaya."

I don't see this as a good idea. Is there something to be gained by this extreem simplification? -- Mwanner 23:00, 22 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Simplification of the page is not the goal. The goal is to make this information available and usable to readers of Wikipedia.
If you wish to continue this conversation, why not take it to Talk:Classification of indigenous peoples of the Americas, where I and others have been discussing this for a while. You may also wish to aquaint yourself with the work that started in Talk:Native Americans in the United States when it was Native Americans.
I hope you're not discouraged. We both want the same thing. I'm just asking you to put your efforts into moving any information that you think is valuable over to the other pages. Mind you, the Classification of indigenous peoples of the Americas is a much more useful way to go, but I won't stand in the way of someone who really wants to add information to List of Native American tribes while we figure out how to do the merge. Maintaining three copies of the same information with various other special-purpose lists (like the U.S. federally recognized tribes at List of Native American Tribal Entities) is just too much to try to merge later. Rember, it's not about us, it's about the poor guy (or girl) who tries to find some information on Wikipedia starting with the main page. -Harmil 12:08, 23 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
