Error?
editThe article says that the eighth character (Europe) or eleventh character (US) of the VIN is where the car was assembled.
But the eighth character on my Ford Mondeo's VIN is "3" and the eleventh is "4".
How can this be explained?
Duplicate names need to be fixed
editThere is a large section of plant names that are duplicated here.
After Tabulate Transmission, there is a section starting with "H" and going through "T" that is duplicated.
This duplicate section needs to be deleted, but I am not sure if it is an EXACT duplicate. We need a Ford Volunteer to figure this out.

Errors
editThe Taubate Transmission row is messed up. Should it be deleted? The information in the columns (except for the Taubate Transmission cell) is the same as the Jiangling Motors Corp., Ltd. entry.Wdfarmer 08:20, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Detroit Empowerment Zone
editI'm not sure this should be listed as a facility. It's a parts supplier business. And, if it is, indeed, a Ford owned/operated facility, than "Detroit Empowerment Zone" is not its name. Jaguar Land Rover plants removed
editThe article starts "The Ford Motor Company currently manufactures automobiles and other components of vehicles in the following factories". Given that this is not the case for the Jaguar Land Rover plants, I have removed them from the list. -- de Facto (talk). 21:51, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Table Reformat
editIn an attempt to better understand how Ford is progressing through its recovery plan ("The Way Forward"), I have embarked on a rather aggressive reformatting of this list of Ford factories. Specifically, I have attempted to add information that shows where plants are being opened or closed, and what size these plants are. All of the information in the new table comes from the older version and the Ford website. Where I was unable to determine whether a plant was open or closed, I have left the 'Status' column blank. I suspect several of these blanks reflect duplicate entries but I thought it better to leave all available information after making such a drastic edit. Also, as this is my first major edit to a Wikipedia page, I'll hope that you will indulge me and forgive any lapses in Wikipedia edict. Cheers! -- 74.15.54.70 (talk) 23:14, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- The reformatting is a great improvement, however, several links are now broken. For example, most of the Detroit plants linked to Ford River Rouge Complex, the Vintage Atlanta Plant should be linked to Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant (Atlanta, Georgia) (although that page ought to be renamed).
- To take this revamp further, I'm going to condense the "products" and "comments" sections where needed. For example, everything listed for Lorain can be put in the Lorain article, it doesn't all need to be here. --Sable232 (talk) 23:27, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Split table into current and former facilities
editWhile the status column helps sort out which facilities are open and which have been closed/sold, I think it makes more sense to have two tables to show this. I guess the status column could now be removed from the open factories list. However, I think it's helpful at the moment to keep this column, while we sort out whether those factories not listed on the Ford.com website are in fact open.
With respect to the former factories, I think it might be useful to resort the list in order of closure/sale. Lastly, it might make sense to move the Volvo and Mazda entries to their own lists since Ford seems to have plans to unload their stake these brands. DrCone (talk) 20:01, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Assembly plant Venezuela=
editMy VIN (8XDDU74W66SA10464) makes much sense when reading this page, thanks a lot! However, I see it's made in Venezuela (8XD) but the plant "S" 11th character in VIN isn't listed in the tables. I don't have more data to add it, but I see only one on the list, so I add it there :) And my car is bought in Ecuador, so it would fit the production facility description.

- Both parts of Cleveland Engine are in the "Current" list, so I'll correct that. However, since Wikipedia is not news, I don't think the fact that the site is up for sale is suitable for inclusion in the article; but when it does sell, the buyer, future usage, and related information will be noteworthy. --Sable232 (talk) 21:13, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Difficult to navigate
editThis page is really difficult to navigate. The section for "branch" assembly plants includes several relatively-obscure factories that closed pre-WWII, but also recent ones like Norfolk, St. Louis, and St. Paul. I wouldn't expect those to be buried that deep on the page in such a section and I'd imagine most other people wouldn't either. It's also a bit confusing that multiple factories get the same entry - Long Beach and Maywood overlapped for a decade, so why does the list lump the two together like the latter was a direct continuation of the former?
Beyond that, the massive amount of detail crammed into the "Notes" column for a lot of these is beyond excessive. That should all be in the article for each plant rather than cluttering up this list and making it needlessly difficult to browse. Olds 403 (talk) 00:54, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- I agree. There has been near-constant editing on this article for so long that it's hard to monitor; the "branch assembly plants" thing probably shouldn't have stood. It's barely explained and has no context for why it's separate, and is confusing for the reasons you describe.
