Article split

I am currently splitting parts of this article, such as for the major teams to shrink the page down. Shingen 01:49, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

  • Well, I'm currently at a PC that can't interpret non-English characters. So it'll have to wait, I s'pose. Shingen 02:21, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
  • When you do the split, could you also include the Nagas and Seibu with their own articles? Their descriptions take up so much space. Sake neko 01:16, 10 May 2007
    • Do we have enough info for either Seibu or Shinryuji for a split? (the only team that has been split off so far is Ojo...which I ended up doing after realizing we had enough info from one of the manga volumes for the rest of the team outside the mains) Could also see a split for Kyoushin or NASA, but not even the Japanese Wiki has them in their own article. -StrangerAtaru 13:09, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Can anyone pick this issue back up that knows this topic well? It looks like it hasn't been touched in a while, and it's very lengthy. -lesthaeghet (talk) 06:01, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
    • I've sort of been out of it for a while with Wiki but I think that I am interested in doing another split. Shinryuji may finally get an article next...then maybe Teikoku once we get some more info on other players. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 00:20, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
    • Update: Shinryuji is split off now but the article is still rather long. Thinking next of doing the following in no particular order:
  1. Kyoshin Poseidons
  2. Hakushuu Dinosaurs
  3. Teikoku Alexanders
  4. Maybe also the Taiyo Sphinx and/or the NASA Aliens

Grammar, spelling, etc.

Honestly, this needs to have proper grammar and spelling. --141.117.155.221 18:27, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

This also needs to conform to the Viz manga translation's name spellings. --TcDohl 13:35, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

I don't think this violates NPOV, but I do agree that it needs a LOT of cleanup. I've yet to read more than the first chapter of the Viz manga, so I don't know their spellings yet. I'll do some cleanup later anyway. --Shingen 00:48, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Improved up to the heading of 'Yoichi Hiruma'. For subsequent edits, please use "Character statistics" instead of "Character info(s)". --TcDohl 15:14, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Please, don't remove the copyediting flag. This article is still in dire need of copyediting, since there are still grammar and spelling mistakes. --TcDohl 18:13, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Viz Translation

I'm sorry to have to burst everyone's bubble, but please, confrom to the Viz translation. Please, let's try to keep names in Western order unless they're in the Kanji-romanization bracket. Here's a list of some of the changes. Please add to this list as the list grows. --TcDohl 05:57, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Huh-Hah Bros. -> Hah Bros. (I know it makes less sense)
  • Ojyo -> Ojo (How the heck did Andrewwong36 get that?)
  • Rice-kun -> Riceman
  • Scumbag Shuffle -> Juvenile Delinquent Murder Method

Sena's 40 yard dash

His 40 yard dash was only when being chased by Cerberos, I think it was 4.9 seconds regularily.

Yes, but the 40 yard dash should only be for their fastest time. Add the appropriate information in the main body of the character profile. --TcDohl 22:47, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

He improves by the time the Kanto Tournament comes around. His new time is 4.2 seconds without Cerberus giving chase. NorseNinja (talk) 01:36, 8 March 2009 (UTC) NorseNinja

Character statistics

In volume 10, page 77 from the Japanese version, Sena is now able to bench press 45KG (100lbs) during his accidental enrollment into the San Antonio Armadillos. Shouldn't that be added?

For some characters, a "special technique" row could be added to their statistics indicating any special techniques they have, such as Sena's "4.2 second Speed of Light", "Devilbats Dive" and "Devil Cut" or Shin's "Spear Tackle", for example.

Finally, for some of the Devilbats team, their stats were listed in a star grid formation during volume 9 when they were deciding whether to go back to Japan or stay in America for the Deathmarch. From what I can make out in the manga...

Monta

  • Speed: 6/10
  • Catch technique: 8/10
  • Height: 2/10
  • Weight: 2/10
  • Power: 4/10

Yukimitsu

  • Speed: 3/10
  • Catch technique: 2/10
  • Height: 6/10
  • Weight: 3/10
  • Power: 1/10

Joumonji

  • Speed: 4/10
  • Catch technique: 6/10
  • Height: 5/10
  • Weight: 5/10
  • Power: 5/10

Kuroki

  • Speed: 5/10
  • Catch technique: 3/10
  • Height: 5/10
  • Weight: 4/10
  • Power: 4/10

Taganou

  • Speed: 4/10
  • Catch technique: 3/10
  • Height: 5/10
  • Weight: 6/10
  • Power: 5/10

Komutsubi

  • Speed: 4/10
  • Catch technique: 1/10
  • Height: 1/10
  • Weight: 5/10
  • Power: 8/10

Sena

  • Speed: 10/10
  • Catch technique: 3/10
  • Height: 1/10
  • Weight: 2/10
  • Power: 2/10

Maybe some use might come of this?

Sock Puppet Alert?

I think that there are anonymous users that are actually Sock Puppets of several users that I seemed to have scared off due to their consistent bad grammar and spelling. They just keep adding to this article without making improvements to it. --TcDohl 17:30, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

I am guessing that Tcdohl knows more about sock puppetry now but has forgotten about his(?) comment here. 97.115.129.240 (talk) 13:10, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Hiruma's swearing

Should a trivia note be made on Hiruma's section about him using the "fuck/fucking" swear word (even spelt in katakana to have him saying it in English too) extremely often in the Japanese manga? I heard it was changed in the English manga version to "Darn" or something much milder, so it might be a fun note to point out for comparison's sake. Sera404 03:38, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

You heard wrong. Go buy the English manga for a real comparison instead of hearsay. No excuses please.

--TcDohl 15:00, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Well, it's "Damn" in the english release (and something similarly mild in the anime), though I believe it was actually "fucking" in the original, as well as in the Shonen Jump Special animation thing.

It was fucking. You are correct.

Yes. It is correct that it was "damn", but not "darn". And please, sign your stuff, please. And we seriously don't need a trivia note for it. This article is already quite long and needs to be shrunk and cleared of fancruft. --TcDohl 16:35, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Ichiro Takami copy edit

I'm trying to rework the Ichiro Takami section a bit, and I'd really appreciate clarifications on a few points. First of all, what exactly is the truth that his coach told him? Would someone please explain what is meant by "calculations of passing to the player?" And finally, would it be more correct to refer to him as Ichiro or Takami?

Thank you. Invidia 11:45, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

About the Nasa Aliens

About the Nasa Aliens/Shuttles section - If I remember correctly, the manga had Apollo portrayed as a racist, who didn't let Panther play solely because he was black, and that got toned down to him making a mistake and getting kicked off the team in the anime. I'm just a random anonymous, so I don't really know how this goes, but should the manga version of the story get a mention?

The Tone of Some of the profiles

I think perhaps that in some of the profiles the tone is too informal and occasionally lapses into subjective interpretation. For example in the Unsui Kongo profile the last line about the elder Kongo brother viewing Agon's threat about practicing through 'rose tinted glasses' has little to do with what was actually presented on the page and more to do with the wiki writer's interpretation of Agon's character. I think perhaps that such things should be kept to a minimum and I am tempted to edit them out, if there are no objections

Thanks~ Booster. 8:20, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Split off Ojo's article

I'm starting to think of maybe splitting off Ojo's article into a new page, considering how much information we now have on them being Deimon's main rival. (furthermore, we could use that page maybe to add further info like all of the other Ojo team members like the list in vol. 11) -StrangerAtaru 15:56, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Ushijima Buffalo

I was wondering if Ushijima from the Seibu Wild Gunmen should be given his own profile, since he is techniquelly one of the main players and has his own technique (Duel Air & Air Duel Horn). I noticed that he is mentioned but some other characters like Ohira Hiroshi and Onishi Hiroshi and thought that Ushijima should have his own profile as well.

CP9Zebra 23:32, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I say go for it...also think the defensiveman from Shinryuji needs an article too. (the big guy seen alongside Agon, Unsui and Ikkyu..heck he even made the "all-manga popularity team". Haven't gotten to where he is yet though so I can't do it.) -StrangerAtaru 00:49, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Seiyuu Info

Yes, we have some characters, but is there anyone out there who can list the rest of the possible seiyuu. If you do, would you please update the seiyuu to the appropriate character? I don't know about others, but I know that this information would be greatly appreciated. - Sake neko 01:19, 10 May 2007

Article splitting

Wiki's giving us headaches again regarding article size so I think we may need to create a couple more team-specific pages or cut them down to something smaller. My next bet for a separate team article is probably Seibu, though at this point you could also make arguments for Kyoshin or Hakushuu. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 00:30, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Alright I split off Seibu but the article is still too large. I think my next step is to prune the Hakushuu information since the game is over and I doubt we need all that information for characters like Marco and Gaō. (especially since the same may occur soon with the start of the Teikoku game) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 23:10, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

More managers and cheerleaders

Been adding a few things here or there on the page (mostly adjusting Hakushuu now the game's over and added the Kyoshin cheerleaders). Noticed the Japanese page had a few more female character names (for Amino, Hashiratani and Dokubari) and I'm debating if they're important enough to have on the Wiki. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 23:56, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Is Karin Koizumi a male or female?

I know he/she appears very girly, but the series has never placed a female character in any field position (they're always reserved to managing/cheerleading positions), so wouldn't it be a longshot to assume she is in fact a woman? Considering he/she is a quarterback, it seems more likely for him to be a crossdresser. In a sense, has he/she ever specified as female in the series? Any proof to his/her current gender assignment? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.45.113.16 (talk) 01:16, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

  • No. Karin is a girl, definitely. Its just that football is a coed sport, not too many people know that. She is a girl, and there was even a joke made that Hiruma told every one on the Devil bats that she was a man, so they wouldn't go easy on her. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.102.118.187 (talk) 03:16, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Further Splitting

I just split the NASA Shuttles into their own article, but its still "too long" according to the editor. I'm starting to wonder whom to split off next...we have substantial sections for both Kyoushin and Hakushuu but I'm not sure if either could be either condensed or split off. Any suggestions? -StrangerAtaru (talk) 15:39, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

  • I sort of wanted to add this here after what happened earlier but I do sort of want to know why Teikoku was almost added back to the main list. While not my first choice in regards to splitting this article, Teikoku already has the notariety of being the "final rival" of the whole series. Sure Murata and Inagaki haven't had them around for very long but they are the final enemy, the ones that whoever wants to win the Christmas Bowl must defeat as well as crucial history in regards to many aspects of the story such as the only team that consistantly defeats Shinryuji, the team with "the real ES21" (whom Sena's been chasing since day one), the team with "Honjo's son" (thus bringing Monta's dream into focus as well) and just their obsessive all-star mentality that even nearly drove teams such as Bando and Hakushuu nuts. They weren't Ojo, Seibu or even NASA but I split Teikoku off due to their importance even at this point as well as due to the previous decision to break this article up a bit. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 02:52, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • I say both Kyoshin and Hakushu be split off, but especially Hakushu. I've been editing a LOT and managed to get the list down to about 84 KB (about 80% its previous size), but I agree it's still too long. Taking out player information from Kyoshin eliminates about 11 KB, Hakushu eliminates about 14 KB - which knocks it down to under 60 KB. Y BCZ (talk) 15:38, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Eliminating techniques/strategies?

The 'techniques/strategies' portion at the end of almost every player's section seems to overemphasize in-universe information, and doesn't in my opinion contribute much to information on each character. If we were to throw out the especially unimportant ones and summarize the rest, we'd be able to cut down the length of the article significantly, as the techniques/strategies sections make up about 5 KB of the page. More importantly, however, I believe these sections on the individual character pages are a much greater problem. Hiruma has about 2.5 pages of text devoted exclusively to techniques, and in my opinion getting so specific on a person's abilities is ridiculous. There are so many techniques in the series it's just not worth it to go into detail about all of them. Y BCZ (talk) 16:49, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Need permission to work on this page

If I change anything it keeps being undone so I guess I should ask permission for these changes. Requests

  • Permission to shorten the facts and paste the unnecessary overview onto the teams respective page.
Work has been undone
Work on Nasa Shuttle of putting the Coach's fact onto Coachs profile instead of on the main overview page has been undone
  • Permission to remove unnecessary characters, ex the Love Cupids Captain.
Work has been undone
  • Permission to un * some of the facts and put into a small paragraph where the main facts about the teams are done.
Work has been undone

Anyways if I'm allowed to do these changes, please post on my discussion board. Thank you DragonZero (talk) 01:51, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Your work's been undone, at least by me, because 1) It breaks the format of the page and 2) It thus flows better without your edits. However, I do agree with the premise behind your edits, and I think the format of the page needs to change. Having so much space dedicated to minor characters like Hatsujo, Kamiya, and Iwashima is stupid, and putting so much team information under links to the main articles is also ridiculous. I also dislike having the height, weight, jersey number, positions, etc. all placed under individual characters just because the information is available - in many instances it's unnecessary.Y BCZ (talk) 13:45, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
I think we should just star the info generally about the team's characteristics not personality. EX: Deimon wears red suits. Their mascots are the red bats. Afterwards it should be a paragraph to describe the team. "The main team of the series where the story involves the growth and battles of Deimon."DragonZero (talk) 00:31, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
My sandbox now contains an in-progress format change to the list, where I'm stripping out a lot of the details in favor of narrative. Tell me what you think. Y BCZ (talk) 17:08, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
It seems good but I think some teams need another article for the characters.DragonZero (talk) 23:12, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Creation and Reception sections

I've taken it upon myself to clean up this article and get the necessary references (I can't believe there's NO references AT ALL in the entire article!), and I'll probably check over some related articles as well later. But I need some help with the currently empty "Creation and Conception" and "Reception" sections as I've got no idea as to where I should look for this kind of information. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Akke Bandvagn 20:25, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

I started those sections, but I'm from Portuguese Wikipedia and I ask someone can correct the possibles mistakes I do. This article needs to be expanded. See the Naruto characters and Tokyo Mew Mew characters pages, there are good examples as an list of characters must be. Thanks. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 23:08, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Merging and Shortening

A lot of the sub-pages are nominated for merging into the character the page. whats everyones opinion on that. In my opinion, they should be merged, plus the "characters" article should be shortened. we don't need to lost every technique and stats of the characters, thats way too detailed.IchiGhost (talk) 14:37, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

I agree with merging most articles into one (with the exception of Hiruma and perhaps Sena). I've started working on a list to encompass all characters of importance, though at the moment haven't been able to work too much on it (User:WhiteArcticWolf/Page). Hiruma definitely has notability, and enough can probably be found for Sena. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 23:57, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
