Campaign order
editShould we order the main campaigns by release, then spin-off campaigns by release? Or order all by release? i.e.
- C1, C2, C3, ExU, ExU Calamity
or
- C1, C2, ExU, C3, ExU Calamity
I genuinely don't have a preference. Is anyone aware of a policy (or precedence) that could help guide? Little pob (talk) 16:49, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
- Switched to by release regardless of whether "main" or not. Can have future discussion, if need be, whether ExU should be listed as a CR campaign or treated as a crossover. Little pob (talk) 20:12, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- For consistency with the CR and ExU articles, along with other examples of spin-offs crossing over with the "parent" show, will remove ExU the shows from the list. Little pob (talk) 11:46, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
To do...
editGeneral
- Find more sources – please place suggestions in the {{refideas}} template at the top of talk page
Main cast
- Convert bullet points to prose Done
- Write a paragraph on each character Partly done
- Consider creating a subheading for each character once each has a paragraph written within a cast member subheading level (i.e. Ashley's characters could be subheaded even if Liam's are still to be written)
Guests
- Double check the order of appearance/introduction for the Vasselheim (Slayer's Take) episodes as source lists in slightly a different order to the C1 article
- Write 2–4 sentences for each guest character Partly done

- I copied over character plot details from C2 & C3 articles; feel free to update as needed! C1 is pretty sparse so whatever is developed here should probably be used to expand that article as well. Sariel Xilo (talk) 22:43, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- You've accidentally raised an interesting point on content forks there.
- I know CR is an edge case for MOS:TV; but looking at a handful of multi-season "List of ... cast members" articles just now, I've realised that they only have a wikilinked cast table and maybe a list of guest stars. Lets have a discussion at the main Talk:Critical Role page, where more eyes are likely to see it. Little pob (talk) 11:07, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
Downfall
editWith Downfall (CR:D) officially part of C3 (E99-E101) how do we want to represent that in the cast table, if at all?
I have three main suggestions:
- Remove the cast table and deal with everything in prose. Would also remove the need to deal with complicated wikitable markup and the amendments required each time there is a new campaign or main cast character
- Ignore CR:D in the table despite featuring main cast members
- Feature CR:D and deal with any issues as/if they arise. Would probably require at least one footnote
But do not have a solid preference for any. What are other's thoughts? Little pob (talk) 14:28, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- 3) I think we should mention the specials characters run by other DMs in footnotes which would also mean tucking Mercer's Dariax Zaveon into a footnote. And then clarify in the prose section that the cast (both main & guest) plays as other characters during these mid-campaign specials. Sariel Xilo (talk) 21:50, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, not a visual thinker, so may not have explained myself well. With "3" I was suggesting similar to this:
Cast table listing CR:D characters with explanatory footnotes
| ||||||||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
- Are you suggesting something like this:
Cast table with footnote on C3 column and removal of Dariax
| ||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
- Or more along the lines of:
Cast table with footnotes at each cast member with
| ||||||||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
- Apologies if I've missed the mark entirely.
- (I can't find a talkpage equivalent of {{NoteFoot}}, or a talk/dummy version of {{NoteTag}}. So hopefully using it doesn't flag as a maintenance issue somewhere)
- Little pob (talk) 12:04, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- This is super helpful! Here's more of what I was thinking (where the footnote mentions the character name for the corresponding special). Sariel Xilo (talk) 16:27, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
Cast table with footnotes at each cast member v2
| ||||||||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
- Seems reasonable, but think we should merge Matt back to a 3 colspan with footnote:
Cast table with footnotes at each cast member v2.1
| ||||||||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
- Whilst guest DMs in subsequent campaigns might prompt the need for more and more notes on Matt's row, given the multi-year run of each campaign, we can cross that bridge when we come to it. Little pob (talk) 12:44, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- That works for me! Thanks for drafting everything. Sariel Xilo (talk) 16:19, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- Done. Though have tweaked the tense afterwards, as suddenly recalled TVNOW.
- Afterthought though... Should we put a named note that Travis the other players do not appear in CR:D in the same way we have Matt? I'm not sure some readers aren't going to make the assumption that Chetney etc appears because Ashley, Laura and Taliesin have notes stating they are playing different characters in the special. Something like {{efn|name:NotInCRD|Player is absent in the mid-campaign special ''Critical Role: Downfall''}} or is the standard "player absent" note in the list of episodes article for C3 enough in this situation?
