Date question

edit

Why are the dates so far advanced? Today, Nov 7 (actually last night the 6th), an entry was added for Nov 16, after the already present entry for Nov 9. How is that possible? BollyJeff | talk 18:50, 7 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

It goes by the issue date of the magazine, which is also a "week ending" date. New charts are usually published online on the Thursday prior to the actual release of the magazine. So the charts released today (November 14) are officially for the week from November 17-23, with the 23rd being the issue date of the magazine. Therefore, the date listed for "Royals" will be for the week ending November 23 historically, despite the fact the chart was released today. The Billboard Hot 100 article explains this. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:44, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. For verification purposes, it would be nice if they said that in the online articles that we use for sources. I only see the date of the online publication in there, unless I am missing something. BollyJeff | talk 19:22, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
You are correct. The online articles are just reporting on the facts of that day without reference to an issue date. The chart itself will identify the week (see http://www.billboard.com/charts/2013-11-16/hot-100 for the week ending 11/16) as well as the Billboard archives (see http://www.billboard.com/archive/charts/2013/hot-100 for this year – interesting to see they've basically stolen the table format from Wikipedia). --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 22:28, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
So the one for Jan 5 was actually compiled in December of last year. Oh well; it is what it is. They are still way ahead of AT40. "Royals" got to #1 there just this past week, after 6 weeks at #1 on Billboard. I know it's not the same criteria, but you'd think they would be close. It happens time and time again. I don't see lists like this one for AT40 on wiki. BollyJeff | talk 01:58, 15 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
