List of prisoners of conscience

I notice there is a long list of such prisoners. It seems somewhat arbitrary as it is based on Amnesty press releases, some of which are outdated. Does Amnesty maintain a database of such prisoners? Should we move these examples to a List instead?VR _talk 21:14, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

I find that recent edits by JorgeLaArdilla rather arbitrarily arrange and remove certain prisoners. Even if some prisoners have been set free, nowhere does it say that a prisoner has to be current in order to be listed at this article. Either we find a way to standardize this list or get rid of it altogether.VR _talk 14:53, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

JorgeLaArdilla I want to try and WP:PRESERVE first. Can we create a separate article List of designated prisoners of conscience? We would include all those historically deemed prisoners of conscience, along with a note if they are still imprisoned (i.e. still alive and not released).VR _talk 21:23, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Non-Amnesty designation

Does anyone other than Amnesty designate prisoners of conscience? If so, we should include them. If not, then this article should be moved to List of prisoners of conscience designated by Amnesty International.VR _talk 19:47, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Just thinking about the Uyghurs makes me think it could be an awfully big list unless there is a restrictive objective requirement for inclusion. But it makes me shudder to think someone's plight is not highlighted because they dont quite hit every box. My old church would read out a letter from a different PoC each month. Dont hold me to a requirement for a referenced source but my understanding was that AI maybe coined the term and marketed a different prisoner each month? UTF-8 symbol

Could we please have an explanation for why there's a UTF-8 symbol "۩" in front of some of the prisoners' names for Eritrea and Ethiopia? Unless this is compatible with the WP:MOS in general and WP:ACCESSIBILITY specifically, then these should be removed. Normally templates are better for special symbols. Added Alexei Nalvany to the list again

After the removal of Alexei'ss status because of comments of POC's Amnesty reviewed their decision and in May 7th of 2021 renewed his status as a Prisoner of Conscience. Since idk where to cite cites I thought I would include it here in the talk page. Chefs-kiss (talk) 21:19, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

In a letter to the Julian Assange Defence Committee (JADC) on May 17, Amnesty International UK declared, “Julian Assange's case is a case we're monitoring closely but not actively working on. Amnesty International does not consider Julian Assange to be a Prisoner of Conscience.”
