Michael Vartan
edit- Michael Vartan - not really clear if it's his grandfather or great-grandfather who was Armenian. But in any case, he calls himself a "Polish Jew". JackO'Lantern 19:16, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Gregory Peck
edit- Gregory Peck was not Armenian nor even of partial Armenian ancestry.--Preservedmoose (talk) 17:27, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Sufjan Stevens
editHaving an Armenian name does not make you an Armenian, unless anyone can prove he is actually Armenian.
- Agree. I read somewhere that his ancestors are from Greece and Lithuania (or Latvia?). He should be removed from the list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.22.117.29 (talk) 20:02, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, I don't even think Sufjan is an Armenian name. I think that it is most likely Arabic. It is purported to from Abu Sufjan Muhammad, who was supposedly some Sufi warrior (which doesn't make sense, because Armenians are Christian and would not have a name like Abu Sufjan Muhammad). Sufjan Steven said that Abu Sufjan Muhammad was an Armenian, which has led to the confusion.--Preservedmoose (talk) 17:26, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Ethnicity lists discussion
editPlease see discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy) for current discussion of a potential policy to apply to all ethnicity lists on Wikipedia, including this one. JackO'Lantern 20:50, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Red links
editI think we should clean this article up just like List of Armenians as that business section looks brutal w/ all those red links. It made List of Armenians go up for AFD so maybe we should cut this article down a little? - Fedayee 04:55, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah I think so too, after I saw List of Armenians article being nominated for deletion, I started organizing and removing the ones that are unverifiable. ROOB323 08:06, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm gonna remove the red names, it seem like anybody with an internet connection added his uncles name to this list. VartanM 03:27, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Some of the red names, though, have turned to blue, or are red because of mispellings or leaving out a middle initial. I would say, leave the red names in the talk section and do a Wikipedia search first and then a Google search and if something notable shows up, then start an article on them. If nothing shows up, then delete them completely. clariosophic 21:45, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'll take a closer look when I find time. As for the red names turning blue, one of the reasons why I moved them here instead of deleting, was my hope that gradually the articles would be created. So I guess my theory kind of worked :) I moved them back to the list. --VartanM 00:55, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Inclusion Requirements
editINCLUSION REQUIREMENTS: If they aren't notable enough to have an article here at Wikipedia, they aren't likely eligible for inclusion here. Only include those with articles, so write the article first. Wikipedia is not to be used for promotion or advertising. If their notability can be established by very solid references, then that may suffice to justify inclusion.clariosophic 22:40, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Reuben Nakian
editIs it fair to consider Reuben Nakian an "Armenian American" when he doesn't consider himself one? http://www.aaa.si.edu/collections/oralhistories/transcripts/nakian81.htm? Bulldog123 19:00, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know about this particular person, but I believe you have written in several places that individuals must identify themselves as being from a particular ethnic or possibly national (country) group before that person can be added to a 'list of xx Americans'. I have seen some discussion on the BLP project talk page that did not indicate that self-identification was required by BLP and I have not seen any such requirement on the BLP project page or elsewhere. Where does the self-identification requirement exist? Thanks Hmains (talk) 20:52, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Americans?
editWhy the inclusion of Silvie Vartan, Charles Aznavour and Arto Tunçboyacıyan? They are French and Turkish, for all I know.
Why duplicate lists?
editSee:
I can imagine why one would be a redirect to the other, but instead they're two separate lists. They appear to have been forked by User:Bulldog123 on 20 April 2011 (see here and here).
Does anyone want to volunteer to merge the two and then redirect one to the other? Which name should take precedence? Dori ☾Talk ⁘ Contribs☽ 02:28, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
NOTABILITY AND LIST MANAGEMENT
editReverted the list to previous list version I managed. The list should only have entries that have articles to determine notability. DO NOT add aentries with no wikipedia articles. Furthermore:
- DO NOT remove names from list without reason
- DO NOT add Opinionated words such as icon, notable, famous, etc. Entries should have NPOV approach
- DO NOT add American to blurb. They wouldn't be on a List of Armenian Americans if they weren't already American.
- DO NOT add references. Articles will discuss subject's ancestry
- DO NOT add fictional characters. Only living people!!
- Please keep blurbs short. Main purpose of wikilink is to lead reader to subject's article
- List subject only once on list under category that fits their notability.
I will revise the last unconstructive edit and see if I can incorprorate entries that do not appear on the list. Please keep list intact as it is until I can revise names.
Thank you for your cooperation. --XLR8TION (talk) 23:56, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
