Linden Yard is a 19 track railroad freight yard along the Staten Island Railway in Linden, New Jersey, United States. It lies west of the Chemical Coast Line in Elizabeth and east of the combined Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Lines in Linden, with the SIR line's grade separated flyover of the NE Corridor being just north of the Linden station. It is also situated between U.S. Route 1/9 and Interstate 95."SIRT-Staten Island Rapid Transit". SIR freight traffic from Howland Hook Marine Terminal and the Staten Island Transfer Station at the site of the former Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island may pass through Linden Yard. Chemical traffic from the synecdochically named Coast line may also use Linden Yard before heading west to either the Raritan Valley Line or the Conrail Lehigh Line.

By the way there is also a "Linden Yard & Shops" for the Chicago L at Linden Avenue and 4th Street, Village of Wilmette[1], as well as a real estate company in Memphis Tennessee.

Rolling stock and operators
editThis past weekend I visited both yards (unfortunately without a camera, hence no photos) and I noted that in the SIR yard were parked many off white colored covered hopper cars belonging to GATX. In the yard along the NE Corridor were black tank cars (presumably TTX Company though I did not get a good look). I note that US Development Group operates a Linden Terminal ethanol truck to rail to barge facility at Tremley Point on the Arthur Kill that deals mostly with tank car loads.[3] Operators along the Chemical Coast line include both CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railway. There are several wikipedia articles that mention that the Morristown and Erie Railway has a special contract with either Union County, New Jersey or the state of New Jersey to develop freight lines in the county, including the SIR line. However, note that the youtube video link on the Arthur Kill Vertical Lift Bridge page clearly shows a CSX locomotive hauling a train over the bridge.
