RE: The Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988's clause on non-commercial use etc.

I live in the United Kingdom and was wondering. The current Copyright Law in the UK is The Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 and Sound recordings are legible for Copyright, but in the Copyright of many books, websites and so on, and so on state that one is permitted to download the content for one's own personal non-commercial use, so I believe it should be allowed for a certain period and the got rid of or bought, like a trail period. However, if someone has the exact copy of the CD for example are they allowed to download it from P2P softwares?

Limewire pro

If we buy the version of Limewire Pro, can we still update the program? such as from 4.12.4 to 4.12.6 --MarioV 21:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

on their website it says you get 6 months of updates for free before you have to pay again.

The legal section

To lazy now to check if the alledged august 8 BBC report sentence was inserted by a "RIAA toadies IP adress", but if you visit the BBC site it clearly says "Last Updated: Friday, 12 May 2006, 12:53 GMT 13:53 UK" so it's definetly NOT reported one day after the RIAA sued Limewire! Hash Values

Someone should post hash values of limewire free and limewire pro that were downloaded from limewire's site along with version number, so this way people can verify things

Different Versions of Limewire.

Limewire Pro comes without ads and has more speed with downloads. Limewires 5.5, 7.0, Limewire Plus etc. are just improved versions of the basic software. Bearly451 talk 05:47, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Malware and Limewire

"On May 12, 2006, the BBC reported that "Limewire" and "Lime wire" were respectively the fifth and seventh most likely search terms to return links to malware from an Internet search engine.[6]"

This quote from the Wikipedia article on Limewire is ambiguous. The full article from the BBC gives more detail on the issue of malware associated with Limewire:

"The riskiest search terms were associated with downloads (such as "screensavers" and "free ringtones") and file-sharing (such as "Bearshare" and "limewire"). Searching under these categories returned a substantial proportion of dangerous sites."

In other words, it is not that the Limewire website or the software itself exposes users to malware. It is that top search results which contain the terms "Limewire" and "Lime wire" contain malware. Limewire itself has no direct influence on these sites.

The article should be updated to clarify this point.

Denver AG & Identity theft

I removed the section about the Denver attorney general's warning about identity theft because it isn't notable, nor does it apply to LimeWire anymore than any other filesharing program. Oasisbob 00:57, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

The top search results are also just a few kb and are the most likely to contain viruses and malware and are often file type exe. People should realise that 22kb can't be an mp3 or video or an exe.--JoePointer 17:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Huh? 22 kB can be anything. It's usually not the kind of stuff people are looking for but that's a completely different issue. This "P2P is dangerous" blather is utter propaganda bullshit. The web and email are just as dangerous or even worse because people have a false sense of trustworthy sites/senders.
