Using older source from the same author

edit

Not sure why you are over-riding a source originally written in 1997 from material written by the same author in 2021 who specifically goes into detail on why the previous assumptions were not accurate. Care to explain? Andrzejbanas (talk) 01:24, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Are you saying he positively states Lugosi was not in LILI? Because I have 4 different reference books here that list it as a Lugosi film. All the internet sites list Lugosi as being in it as well. It sounds like this 2021 source is the only one that disagrees? HerbLightman (talk) 19:44, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Read the source or even the article for details. Andrzejbanas (talk) 22:39, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

You write in the article there is no "compelling evidence that Lugosi was in the film"? Then you say all of the promotional material, advertisements and even the reviews of the preview screening all mentioned Lugosi's role in the film. That isn't "compelling evidence"?? The guy who reviewed the movie actually commented on Lugosi's acting, but you're saying there's no evidence that he was in the film?? I don't get that at all.
You seem to feel that just because a source book is more recent than the others, that makes it more accurate?
That isn't always the case. HerbLightman (talk) 16:39, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
The new sources goes heavily into details about why Lugosi is not in the film. If you have evidence contrary outside just a listing that says anything contrary, it's up to you to provide it.Andrzejbanas (talk) 19:45, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Rhodes research is very thorough regardless. Working with Hungarian Silent film scholars, there is just no evidence he's in it outside one promotional material with no image. Lugosi is not mentioned by any contemporary writings about the film after its release and the character he was billed has critical commentary about another actor performing the role and photos of the other actor next to him. What do your sources provide @HerbLightman:? Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:41, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
In general, most Hungarian films don't get mentioned much years after their release, most get lost or fade into obscurity (like Lugosi's other Hungarian films). As far as this 2021 source goes, a photo of some other actor now being identified as playing the Lugosi role could be a misprint or error, since it only appears in the 2021 book. It's obvious today that Rhode's earlier reference books were riddled with errors, so maybe a few years from now, we'll learn that the 2021 book he wrote has some errors as well and should be regarded as more accurate than the other reference books just because it's more recent. Each book Rhodes publishes rearranges the order of the European Lugosi films drastically, so I'm sure we still don't have them in the correct "order of release" as you added to the filmography page today. No, because if we take that approach, we might as well ignore all published and peer reviewed research. C'mon man. As per Wikipedia:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers states, the year in filmographies should be "The year of the film's release date." Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:34, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
