Paragraph #3, section "Arrests and incarceration", near the end of sentence #2. The link to "MDMA" should be piped, with the word "ecstasy" visible. It is what it is most commonly known as, and many people would have to check what it is. I only know what it is because I have written an essay on it. Thank you.--90.208.106.31 (talk) 16:59, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Lil Wayne's record label Universal Republic Records is now defunct, he and all of his label-mates moved to Republic Records which will prompt him to release this album under this label instead of the former one, and why did you changed it back? Lil Wayne also known as Lil Tunechi also known as Weezy "F" Baby is 24 years old. He has 7 children and is the youngest out of 12. He has created a LAME brand in the name of Truk Fit®. He has a brand of Beats® By Dr. Dre headphones called the TUNECHIS — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.244.93.71 (talk) 01:26, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

People don't know what hip hop is

I just got a message, ten seconds after correcting Lil Wayne's genre, saying please don't edit unsourced info on Lil Wayne. That sort of thing doesn't NEED to be referenced. I only put it there to help all you ignorant people see that Lil Wayne is a pop artist. Hip hop is dead nowadays, and Lil Wayne is definitely the biggest example of that. Wiki editors won't let me change it, so unfortunately, all you kids are going to be mislead into thinking Lil Wayne is a hip hop artist. He is far from that. Those who actually think he's hip hop, you need to open your eyes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jdjd021 (talkcontribs) 08:54, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Really, Lil Wayne is not a rapper? He was one in the song "Just in love" by Joe Jonas. Regarding your other edits, we would appreciate some references. Arctic Kangaroo 10:31, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Date confusion - hospital admission

There has been some conflicting information on the date Lil Wayne was admitted to the ICU. The initial report from TMZ (http://www.tmz.com/2013/03/14/lil-wayne-hospitalized-seizures/) made it clear he was first given medical attention at the hospital in the evening of Tuesday, March 12 and released in the early hours of Wednesday, March 13, and then later went back and was put into the ICU. The initial report from TMZ about him returning to Cedars-Sinai and being admitted to the ICU was published on Friday, March 15 and noted that the admission to the ICU occurred "just hours later" from his Wednesday, March 13 release (http://www.tmz.com/2013/03/15/lil-wayne-seizures-hospitalized-drugs-sizzurp-critical-condition-icu/). It seems many other news sources interpreted "hours later" as referring to the day the article was published (Friday) and so reported him as having been admitted to the ICU on Friday. I originally wrote in this article that he was admitted the 13th, but another user pointed out the articles listing it as Friday and changed it to reflect that. However, the original source (TMZ) published another article today (Monday, March 18) noting specifically that Lil Wayne was admitted to the ICU on Wednesday, March 13 and that today (the 18th) is his sixth day in the ICU (http://www.tmz.com/2013/03/18/lil-wayne-intensive-care-unit-hospital-los-angeles/). Accordingly, I have changed the date listed in the paragraph on this "event" back to Wednesday, March 13. Hope that clarifies any confusion. Starswept (talk) 21:50, 18 March 2013 (UTC)Starswept

All the sites that reported it happened on Wendsday took that information from TMZ, which according to his camp has been getting all the facts wrong. Birdman also said just today that he had the most recent seizure on Friday not Wednesday. As I was saying, with the way the public reacted when TMZ reported that he was in critical condition, we would have known about this the day it occurred, not days later. Source: [1]. What is more reliable, a celebrity gossip website or his friend and mentor since he was a teenager? Also Mack Maine recently said that Wayne was released from the hospital.[2]. STATic message me! 03:18, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
You might want to re-add the comment you earlier deleted here because your comment reads a little out of context unless you go back and compare versions to see your deleted comment. Anyways, this hiphopdx.com link you provided (dated March 18) states that Birdman said a seizure occurred Friday, but that Lil Wayne was hospitalized on Tuesday, March 12 for dehydration and exhaustion (which is a new twist on things and seems to be conflating the issue with what happened in October) and then released, before being readmitted Friday, March 15 after the seizure:
"Additionally, the executive and artist in his own right said that Wayne experienced a single seizure on Friday (March 15). This was contrary to initial reports of multiple seizures. Friday's health concerns were however Wayne's second seizure incident of last week, following a Tuesday (March 13) hospitalization that was said to be a result of dehydration and exhaustion."
Note that this article doesn't even correctly name the dates of the month, listing Tuesday as March 13, when it was in fact March 12. So I would take it with as large a grain of salt as I would TMZ.
Yet the MTV piece (also dated March 18) currently cited in the Wiki article Source: [3] has Birdman saying that Lil Wayne had one seizure only, and it was on Tuesday, and he's been in the hospital continuously ever since then:
"According to the music mogul, Wayne was on his way to a video shoot when he had the seizure on March 12. An ambulance then took him to the hospital, where he's been ever since."
So it's not true that all media sources listing Tuesday as the date of admission are taking it from TMZ - MTV, which is a reliable source, is taking the information not from TMZ, but directly from Birdman, who you say is highly reliable. It seems that there are a lot of people speaking on Lil Wayne's behalf all over the place, and they're saying conflicting things. Hopefully he will have an official publicist make a statement. I don't see any benefit to us arguing about it here when it seems the media we have to rely on for sources is extremely confused as to the course of the events (which might be intentional on the part of Lil Wayne's friends/associates). And I'll update the article to reflect his release (note though that many articles reporting the release are consistent with his admission being Tuesday, noting that he is being released after six days and that he was admitted Tuesday - see this MTV article Source: [4]_ Starswept (talk) 03:59, 19 March 2013 (UTC)Starswept

noticeable absence of lawsuits

So , have just been doing some research related to mixtapes and uncleared samples and Lil Wayne comes up in respect to Lil Wayne and Jonsin's unauthorised use of a sample from Karma-Ann Swanepoel's “Once” in creating the backing for “I Feel Like Dying” - Jonsin is the direct target of one lawsuit started by Lil Wayne (as Dwayne Carter) and an indirect target of the suit brought by Urband & Lazar Music Publishing against Dwayne Carter in respect of Karma-Ann Swanepoel's publishing rights

I will concede that there is little available material on which to provide a complete and unbiased view of the lawsuit, its merits and its outcomes, but it should still be included in any definitive biography, as most of Lil Wayne's lawsuits do (this pair are a notable exception in this regard)Bandcoach (talk) 18:56, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

Just because "Shrimp Daddy" and "Baby D" were used at one point a million years ago before he was known does not mean he is also known by those names - he is NOT KNOWN BY THOSE NAMES. He is known by "tunechi" and "weezy" aka "weezy f baby" - please say the baby.

Request for verification of Lil Wayne's Twitter account(s) & its/their insertion into External Links

Is there a reason one of his fans or otherwise knowledgeable followers hasn't included Lil Wayne's twitter account (or accounts) in External Links? I see mentions of Twitter exchanges in the Main Article, so it seems this information should be included in the External Links section. I don't know the man or his music, but I might have stumbled upon a link to a tweet of his. Problem is that I'm not sure, so even if I had editing privileges for this page, I wouldn't exercise them here due to the uncertainty. I'm old, stodgy, and easily confused, so it's best I leave this for resolution by someone who really knows the situation with this guy.

A reference in the Main Article leads to @LilTunechi (Lil Wayne WEEZY F) as the account, and with over 25 million followers, a lot of people would certainly seem to think it's the real deal. However, a tweet that was cited in a Gawker post as congratulating Ta-Nehisi Coates for winning a MacArthur Foundation Genius grant came from the account @S_C_ (Mr. Carter), the content of which also suggests a strong likelihood of belonging to Lil Wayne. While the latter Twitter account has "only" 3.2 million followers, that's still pretty d*mn impressive! Also, for whatever it's worth, both Twitter accounts are verified (the white-check-mark-inside-serrated-blue-circle thing). There is no reason that BOTH accounts couldn't below to Lil Wayne, but...I really don't know (and who knows, maybe there are more than "just" two Twitter accounts to his name). I'll leave this minor mystery to you fans and music aficionados. Sharl928 (talk) 20:47, 29 September 2015 (UTC)Sharl928

Hello, I'm requesting to add some interesting information to this page. It has to do with the fact that Ryan Lochte, an olympic swimmer for team USA, uses lil wayne's music in order to pump him up before the race. I feel that this is important because Ryan Lochte is also a national celebrity and the fact that he uses Lil wayne's music to help him in the pool should be taken into consideration. Thank you Here is the article from the "New York Times" providing that information. According to Karen Crouse, "In Lochte’s mind it was a toss-up as to which was the bigger event this month: the release of Lil Wayne’s newest album or the trials. He was the first on his block to get his hands on the CD. Listening to his favorite track, “Mr. Carter,” put Lochte in the right frame of mind for Sunday’s race, especially the line: “This right here is crazy. I — I feel Big!” Citation: Crouse, Karen. 2008. Collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Drake--add to article?

In March of 2017 Lil Wayne appeared on the single track 'No Frauds' by Nicki Minaj, also featuring Drake. This track reached #1 in R&B/Hip Hop and top 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts. Lil Wayne also appeared in the accompanying video. Relevant citations and links are already in the main Wikipedia article on the 'No Frauds' single: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Frauds 205.254.147.8 (talk) 17:02, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Singles discography

This probably should have been more widely discussed but is everyone OK with how the Lil Wayne singles discography article has been split?

I'm not saying there wasn't a need for a split, but these are poorly done without any thought about value to readers (only page size). There are no intros in the new articles and many of the citations have been corrupted because they relied on those in the main singles discography, and no effort was made to fix them. Instead of "discography" maybe the "list of" naming method should be utilized in these as well. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 22:47, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars: I really don't agree with this split as is at all. It's terrible, and as you said, there's been no consideration for anything other than page size. Jax 0677 has left references that were defined in earlier sections out of the later ones, so there are plenty of ref errors and the like around. There's barely any introduction, just a huge table and confusing titles (for readers). Readers now have to jump to five different pages for different parts of Lil Wayne's discography. Was this even discussed? I'm thinking if Lil Wayne were still as popular or prolific as he was in the mid-2000s this would have attracted more attention. Ss112 03:17, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
@Ss112: I'm with you as far as the way it was is better than the way it is. If there was some forethought given to this with consensus from other editors, I'd be for whatever the outcome. But this was done haphazardly only to reduce page size. As is, it was a bad idea with even poorer execution. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 17:09, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

Proposed change to early life

The second to last sentence of Early life says he accidentally shot himself in the chest, however in newer reports he now explains that this was actually deliberate. In this interview with Billboard he revealed that on his next album he will confess that the shooting was a suicide attempt after his mother told him he cannot rap anymore. I propose this should be reflected in the early life section of this page.

Current line: At age 12, he accidentally shot himself with a 9 mm handgun, and off-duty police officer Robert Hoobler drove him to the hospital.

Proposal example: At age 12, he attempted suicide with a 9mm handgun, and off-duty police officer Robert Hoobler drove him to the hospital. While Wayne had formerly called the incident an accident, he eventually felt ready to open up about the true story, hoping individuals going through similar situations would identify with it MichaelHayworth (talk) 04:35, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

MichaelHayworth The Billboard source is interpreting the lyrics. Wait till the artist states this was the case. Lapadite (talk) 04:56, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

This article's slant on Lil Wayne's comments on Black Lives Matter

Lil Wayne was not critical of Black Lives Matter, that's a super biased take on what happened. Wayne was being asked to align himself with black lives matter, which he refused to do. In the quote, he criticizes those who would align themselves with movements that "have nothing to do with them," not black lives matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8801:880:2F50:4468:96BE:6500:6019 (talk) 06:38, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Photo of Lil Wayne

Hello, I recommend changing Lil Wayne's photo because he is wearing sunglasses and a hat, thus making hard to recognize him. Also, the photo is outdated because Lil Wayne dyed his hair to brown while in the photo it looks black. Here there is a photo of him that i believe would be better and that would help someone who doesn't know who he is, to be able to recognize him on another occasion with this image. Thank you for reading.

This is another source for him often being cited as one of the greatest rappers of all time[4]: https://www.billboard.com/photos/6723017/the-10-best-rappers-of-all-time It augments the current source as its from a online publication while the other source is quotations from his contemporaries. I think the current source should be placed where the comma is in the second sentence of this article as it backs up the point on him being influential and this source from Billboard should be placed at the end of the sentence it has been used in the wikis of The Notorious B.I.G. and Nas to back up statements of them being cited as some of the greatest rappers of all time also.
