Lil Kim's New Album Can the person who can edit the article change the TBA album bit as the album is going to be called Hardcore 2: All Hail the Queen. Thanks, it's really annoying me!

WHY IS LIL KIM HARDCORE FIRST WEEK SALES CHANGED? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.51.212.232 (talk) 19:38, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

WHO IS WALLACE

It should be made more apparent that Wallace is Biggie in the following sentence;

Kim met The Notorious B.I.G., who was a key figure in both her personal and artistic life, particularly when Wallace had gained popularity and influence through his relationship with Bad Boy Records.

SINGING

She does sing in some songs

Yeah, this still needs a lot of work...feel free to insert links and details. All info was checked with Rolling Stone, Yahoo, and other media sources. I took out the part about Biggie "abuse" (hearsay), tried to tone down the laudatory remarks about each album, but kept the structure the same.

Can anyone add sources to this article? It's still full of unqualified statements and information that isn't really useful in an encyclopedia article

Also, I think there's something wrong with my browser - I'm not going to make any edits until I figure out what's wrong, but I suggest taking a second look at the paragraph describing Lil Kim's reaction to Biggie's death - --Marysunshine 03:32, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

"La Bella Mafia" sales

Li'l/Lil'

In his Li'l Abner comic, Al Capp abbreviated the word "Little" as "Li'l." The was because the double t sound was pronounced with a glottal stop. However, the name "Lil' Kim" misplaces the apostrophe. This is the result of ignorance, carelessness, or illiteracy.Lestrade 17:39, 30 May 2006 (UTC)Lestrade

Good point, but you forgot "..or all of the above"! However, there's another possible motive for the spelling. It's the well-known disdain of rappers for "proper English", whatever the latter may be. In other words (no pun intended), rappers will often deliberately go for a spelling which is wrong, ugly or simply new. Which happens to be the way language evolves actually; it evolves by changes that people make to "established" rules and get popular. And language in modern America is influenced by the media and artists of the word. The Gnome 07:37, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Her Album Sales

Everyone please stop changing Lil' Kims info please, the info you are giving is inaccurate Lil' Kim has sold over 22 million albums, singles, and DVD's worldwide. That is according to her article from Atlantic Records with Billboard.com. I always put accurate info and I spell correctly and use good grammar. The rest of you make her page sound so ghetto. PLEASE LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!!!!!!! All of my info is correct.

Hard Core has sold 2.2 million copies in US and over five million worldwide.

The Notorious KIm hassold 1.5 million units since 2000.

La Bella Mafia has sold 1.3 million units

The Naked Truth has sold almost 400 thousand copies.

You guys are constantly changing the article, my gosh, I don't know what to beleive

  • Where are your souces? You need sources to back up your ridiculous claims.
  • Hardcore & Notorious K.I.M. sold 1.4 million
  • La Bella Mafia sold 1.1 million
  • The Naked Truth sold 326,000 (as of 3/06)
  • Hardcore may have been certified Double Platinum, but it only shipped 2 million.
  • She is not a big seller WW.

Look it is because of users like Fallout boy that this article is filled with lies like 17 million albums sold worldwide and HardCore sold 1.l4 million US, Can you stop changing this please, I am a huge Kim fan and I know everything about her sales(soundscan.com) and events that are happening in her life. This is my last warning to you or you will be blocked. Shinemygrillz 01:22, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Was it not enough that I explained in painstaking detail that I haven't been changing her sales info? --Fallout boy 04:49, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

I want everyone to know that the birth date of 1975 is correct. Her Inmate Locater was wrong because the facility she was in is not in NY. Which proves that that is the wrong Kimberly Jones. Thank You and I am changing it 1975. Shinemygrillz 16:08, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

You need proof before you do that. If you can find a reputable website that says her birth year is 1975, then feel free to change it. --JD[don't talk|email] 16:10, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
1974 is the correct year. First of all, "New York CCM" isn't even a facility. It says that because she's still under house arrest. Second, there are no 31-year-old Kimberly Jones who have been federal inmates from 1982 to present.[1] The Kimberly Jones I linked is indeed her, Inmate No 56198-054. --Fallout boy 23:49, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, you got me bought. But where has everywhere else got 1975 from? Any idea? --JD[don't talk|email] 00:01, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Kim's real age

In response to Fallout's last edit summary when he reverted the article, Google says that the information on Kim's age is not from Wikipedia, but is from hiphopgalaxy.com. When I checked earlier, the source was a different website. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that this particular information is not from Wikipedia, and if you know that this information is incorrect, and can back it up, I won't interfere with this article anymore. --JD[don't talk|email] 20:11, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

in regards to her age, the link beside her age in the article is her inmate information. it contains her age at last update, her release in 2006. at the time it is stated as 32, meaning she was born in 1974

Lil' Kim was actually born on July 11, 1976, not 1974. I have the link to her 'Driven" episode on VH1 where her mom states that she was born in 1976. [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oonthada (talkcontribs) 02:48, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

The age has been changed on her INFORMATION table where her picture is and states she was born July 11th, 1976- (36 years old). Which is correct BUT it still says she was born in 1974 at the very start of her page which is wrong. Change would be needed there. PROOF- Lil' Kim is only 36 not 38 due to her date of birth mentioned in the VH1 "Behind the music" of Lil' Kim- Her mum says she was born July 11th 1976, not 1974. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.146.181.156 (talk) 11:13, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

Rumors

Her latest album, The Naked Truth, is rumored to be set for re-release in November 2006, marking the 10th anniversary of Hard Core. The album's first single is said to be "Quiet", featuring The Game. An accompanying video was to be shot for it immediately after Kim was released from house arrest. Reps for Kim said they are expecting to do an Access Granted episode for it on BET. It is possible that the re-release will contain unreleased tracks Kim recorded for The Naked Truth, including "The Game's in Trouble", and duets with Korean singer Bi (aka Rain to Americans), and former rival Faith Evans, though this has yet to be confirmed.

As of August 22 2006, Lil Kim's reps confirmed that she has signed a joint deal with Aftermath Entertainment/ Queen Bee & Interscope Records. Although, reps were unsure of a specific release date for a new album, it was said to be expected sometime summer 2007.

Both of these things have NO SOURCE. There is no talk of an Access Granted and it is rumored that Kim will be on Interscope, not Aftermath. Reps have made NO Comment other than they wish Atlantic will release Kim

Record Label

People are still changing that Kim's label is now Interscope. Kim is NOT on another label as of yet. Discussion are happening, but nothing has changed. Although she has been signed with previous labels she has one of her own titled "queen bee records"

Regular English should be used!

"At the age of nine, her parents divorced, leaving her at home with her father who repeatedly doggied her whilst watching pootie tang. The relationship between Jones and her father was frequently negative and at one point ended when Kim attempted to stab him in the ass with a dildo after a physical fight between father and daughter. Jones was purportedly living on the dick when she met Christopher Wallace a.k.a. rapper The Notorious B.I.G., who was a key figure in her personal and artistic life, particularly when Wallace had gained popularity and influence through his relationship with Bad Boy Records."

^This language is alienating and I for one can't make out what the author is trying to say about Lil' Kim's childhood.

Could someone who understands these coloquialisms please correct this passage? Shaybear♥

This is hard to understand because a lot of it was made up. (<.<;) (>.>;)

^I had a feeling it was made up, but wanted to be sure before I wound up editing something I know nothing about. Ta. :] Shaybear♥

Do You Know????

Hi! I was wondering if you guys know which Native American tribe Lil Kim is descent of because I'm doing a project on diversity in America for my school project. I think it's really cool their are so many people who are black and indian which makes me feel less alone because most of my friends say they're only black...But do any of you know? Thank You for your time98.206.116.222 (talk) 22:10, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry but that kind of information is extremely hard to come by since most of the time in interviews people don't ask about heritage they assume it. It was hard just finding that she is part Native American. If she was to tell in an interview that gets documented then we could use that information, but she may not know what tribe she is descedent of which adds to the problem. I hope that was of help to you.Mcelite (talk) 04:37, 16 March 2008 (UTC)mcelite

Trivia

Although some sources like IMDB say Lil' Kim was born 1974, she was really born 1975.

She is only 4"11.

She made an animation appereance on South Park on You Got... (2004) it was the one where they were making fun of [You Got Served] (2004) the movie she stared on.

She has light skin because she is African-American and part Native-American that's very similar to Olivia (Singer) because she is from black and indian descent and thier both from Brooklyn.

Article reads like a Lil' Kim Almanac -- MAJOR REWRITE needed

By adopting a chronological format, the article looks like what historians call an annal rather than an encyclopedia article.

Clearly the article needs to be re-written in a truly encyclopedic format and the huge awards table needs to be reduced to prose form; ****, it needs to be truncated, period! Its makes the article ungainly and fanzine-ish. Continually calling her by stage name also adds to the rather gushy tone. (I changed the name back to her stage name in the Dancing with the Stars section because she's called by it throughout the article and the editor failed to change all the other instances where she's called "Kim" instead of by her birth name.)

Also the article is woefully short on footnotes. Thus I completely agree with the "refimprove" tag should probably be added.

Perhaps I;ll get to it, but I'm not a big rap/hip-hop fan (I pretty much tuned out after N.W.A and The Chronic), so it's hardly on my priority list. However the changes need to be made.

Felonies Given that being convicted of three counts of perjury and conspiracy is more than just a passing event to be tucked away into an arbitrarily defined chunk of time, it clearly needed to be given its own section as well as needing to be fleshed out and sourced. Before I edited it, the article failed to mention that the shooter in the radio station incident, Jackson, was Lil' Kim's bodyguard (!) a rather major omission (not that I'm suggesting it was intentional).

PainMan (talk) 21:16, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Prison sentence and release

Regarding her sentence, an attorney for Kim stated, "A year and a day is actually less than a year sentence, because according to federal sentencing guidelines, if there's an extra day, time is credited to you". All you have to do is watch the film - you don't need sources when she's obviously not in it - it speaks for itself. That was merely a rumor as she was considered for Regina Hall's role; she was also considered for Regina Hall's role in the original Scary Movie. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.236.202.221 (talk) 20:33, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

You keep saying "she's not in it...she's obviously not in it". Well, I doubt if "watching the film" is verifiable enough. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 21:22, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, that being the case, you should go ahead and add Scary Movie to her resume as well then. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.236.202.221 (talk) 05:27, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Li'l/Lil' again

Since many readers of enwiki are not native speakers, there should still be an Etymology section, or the equivalent, which defines the abbreviation Li'l, then clarifies the fact that our girl is an illiterate who has misspelled Li'l as Lil' for whatever reason.

Non-native speakers require this section. So do native speakers who can't spell.

A section of this kind still needs to be somewhere. Didn't the article use to cover this point?

Varlaam (talk) 02:08, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Misspelling? Not even close. "Lil'" is an alternative way to spell it. The content in Lil is evidence of that. — ξxplicit 02:21, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Lil' Kim

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Lil' Kim's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Birth Year

Her birth year is 1974, NOT 1975 according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The link is right here along with her federal inmate prison number (BOP), which is/was 56198-054. They list her as 37 years old, which means she was born in 1974. It doesn't get more "official" than the Federal Bureau of Prisons. A magazine article is not a more reliable source for her birth year than her record with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Bastian (talk) 18:51, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Allmusic.com lists her birth year as 1975, though. Your comment was from 2011 (2011-37=1974) so I say that the 1974 year stands. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 06:33, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Birth Year II

Lil'Kim CLAIMED she was born in 1975 to the media at the start of her career - this was partly strategic for her a as a female rapper. If she was born in 1975 it would've made her the "youngest female rap artist" to start at her age (she was in tough competition with Foxy Brown at the time, who was her junior). Details of this were found out way later. The Notorious B.I.G. controlled every aspect of her career and his descent to the top of the hip hop world in the 1990's included Lil' Kim, so her image and reputation mattered to him (she is the female version of Biggie Smalls - she raps, rhymes, and her rhythmic style is exactly identical to his). Celebs lie about their age, this is not something new. Her ID's and the Federal Bureau of Prisons of the United States of America certainly don't lie when they say that she was born in 1974. We have no other credible source but that. Her mother "claiming she was born in 1975" is NOT credible. The records and documents of the Federal Bureau of Prisons IS credible. For the longest time everyone thought that rapper Foxy Brown was born in 1979 and some sources even claimed 1980, but her prison record shows it to be 1978. Celebrities lie to the media about their age to make themselves younger - that is very common, probably a lot more than any of us think. She was born in 1974 and that is the end of that! I think the "Nicki Minaj feud" section is incomplete. The real reason why it all started is that Kim thinks Minaj kept dissing her in songs since 2003. This is not all about copying styles and looks. WP:UNDUE on Foxy Brown, and the reliability of the sourcing

The Lil Kim/Foxy Brown feud is one of the more notable feuds in hip hop history, there's no question about that, but the big section added recently clearly gives undue weight to the subject. The article is a mess with tabloid sources, and we are dealing with a sensitive WP:BLP here. I did the tag for reliable sourcing for that reason, and I don't have the time to go through every single tabloid source. Secret account 22:58, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Like many others have said Lil' Kim is not 38 years old, she was born Jully 11th 1976- making her 36 turning 37 in July. Evidence: A "Driven Behind The Music" episode on Lil' kim was aired in which her mother states (at 1:54) "Kim was born on July 11th, 1976." A YouTube link of this episode is here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8ATKtR23wE This was provided quite recently to YouTube February 2013 as it was quite hard to find the VH1 episode recorded and online. 2.96.29.80 (talk) 11:01, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Change her year of birth and age, they are wrong. Lil' Kim is only 36 away to turn 37, she was born Jully 11th, 1976. This is proven in the VH1 episode of "Behind the music- Lil' Kim". I know other people have requested this but still can't understand why it hasn't been changed, it's my understanding the media is trying to portray her in a negative way and we, as fans, want to provide FACT- link to video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8ATKtR23wE 89.240.249.214 (talk) 11:31, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

  • Sources differ on this, with the most reliable sources (various government records) stating that her birth year is 1974, but many journalistic sources stating 1975. It's quite possible that the artist is deliberately obscuring her age to appear younger. Given the situation, a direct quote from her mother is not worth including a third possible birth date/age in the article. See previous talk discussion at the top of this page and in the archives. If anyone disagrees, feel free to discuss here. Thanks for making the edit request, though, it was definitely worth bringing up. ~ RobTalk 13:08, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

That's one source, and family may not always tell the truth. The same issue came up at Mariah Carey, where documented sources like a driver's license and a high school transcript give a different year than what Carey's mother gives. Celebrities fudge their ages all the time. I've restored the article to what the RS citations say, so per WP:BRD, the next step is to discuss the issue on the talk page and reach a consensus for change. It generally starts informally and can go to a formal WP:RfC. --Tenebrae (talk) 23:12, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Birth year is 1974

After having looked through the sources and footnotes in the article (many of which are now dead links), I feel it's safe to list her birthdate as July 11, 1974. The Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locater lists her at 42 years of age (her # is 56198-054, and her release date is listed as August 2, 2006, which coincides with her sentence). I also did a search on familysearch.org, which lists her D.O.B. as July 11, 1974, as well as multiple New York and New Jersey addresses; her parents, Linwood L. Jones and Ruby M. Jones are listed as relatives. These are public records, and trump any bio pages from VH1 or other fluff sources that list 1975. --Drown Soda (talk) 02:09, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
