Page Updates
editTedder- I am attempting to update the Lightspeed Financial page as it contains a good amount of both outdated and missing information. You've reversed the changes as it looks like a plagarized, however, I wrote the content, it's not advertising, and it's accurate.
Can you please advise on the best way to get the site updated so it's accurate? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.106.72.62 (talk) 20:16, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
Copy/paste edits
editTedder- what piece of my edit do you see as copied/pasted? The information added is accurate and current... -JMcGreal — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmcgreal (talk • contribs) 21:10, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- JMcGreal, sorry I didn't notice the page above, if that was from you. I'll go through some of the copyvios here, using this version of the page. I'll also be reverting it, as this policy (Wikipedia:Copyright violations) has legal ramifications.
- "Lightspeed Trading operates as a fully disclosed introducing broker-dealer and FINRA and NFA member." Copyvio from company website. Page is "Copyright © 2001-2013 Lightspeed Financial, Inc. All rights reserved." This text is obviously boilerplate PR by company ([1] "© 2013 Lightspeed Financial, Inc. All rights reserved."), [2]). (note I'll quit showing copyright text from links, the same goes with the rest)
- "Lightspeed Institutional offers a specialized prime brokerage platform for professional investors" [3] [4]
- Out of the lede, it's just summary-style information, normal corpospam. That isn't a legal issue like copyright violation but is still against several core policies of Wikipedia- notably information should be from a neutral point of view and verifiability, which means self-published sources and press releases are not valid sources- nor is the content necessarily relevant to Wikipedia, even if it was properly backed up (for instance, minor awards and lists of every corporate officer).
- After typing this, it's clear the lede is the only thing that is truly infringing. I'm going to prune the lede to an excessively short state. Feel free to add a neutral lede back. tedder (talk) 23:27, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
- On second pass, the "Lightspeed Trading" section/paragraph is also copypaste. "Lightspeed Trading offers securities and direct access brokerage, trading and order routing services to their clients utilizing Lightspeed’s software products." is direct copy paste from the company, yet is backed up by a NYT cite. Please fix these. tedder (talk) 23:29, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
