Moved edit

I've decided to be bold and move this article from "Liederkreis" to "Liederkreis Op. 39". Schumann wrote two song cycles known as "Liederkreis", the other being his opus 24. This move makes it clear which we are talking about (and, as far as I know, this is the usual way to distinguish them) and allows for another article to be made about opus 24, as I hope to soon. I've moved it to Liederkreis, Op. 39. There's always a comma between the name of the piece and the opus number. -- JackofOz (talk) 03:38, 31 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Name in English edit

It means simply "Song cycle". I've always wondered why we pretend this is a title like "Dichterliebe" (Poet's Love) or "Schwanengesang" (Swan Song).

If some German composer wrote an untitled "Sonate", "Symphonie" or "Konzert", we'd translate them as "Sonata", "Symphony" and "Concerto" respectively.

Why not "Song cycle" in this case? -- Jack of Oz [Talk] 11:16, 5 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Liederkreis, Op. 39 (Schumann)Liederkreis, Op. 39 – The Opus number is perfectly sufficient for disambiguation (though personally I think something like "Liederkreis nach Eichendorff" might be more enlightening). In any case there's no need to clutter up the title with Schumann's name. SaryaniPaschtorr (talk) 19:01, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

There is a discussion about a closely related request at Talk:Liederkreis, Op. 24 (Schumann)#Requested move 14 June 2023 where objections are raised which apply here, too. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 03:22, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per all the multiple opposes on the other RM. This kind of title cutting is not remotely helpful to real readers. In ictu oculi (talk) 13:45, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
