Translation

The translation of this document into English is rather unintelligible. I could try a translation myself but I fear my German skills fall short of what would be needed for such a task. 1. All agree that the churches of Christ, which are currently built in Saxon land and consecrated to god, shall have no lesser but a greater and more prominent distinction than the sanctuaries of the heathen idols might have had.
2. If someone sought refuge in a church, no one should undertake to force him out of the church with violence, but should content himself according to this ruling, and due to the honor of god and respect for this holy church he shall be granted life and wholesomeness. But he shall announce the reason bringing him to this condition, and the trial which he came for; and he shall be brought before the King and call upon him, for him to decide his pardon.
3. If someone entered a church by force, and took things from it by vandalism or theft, or even set alight the whole church, he should suffer death.
4. If someone in disrespect of christianity disregards the hallowed fourteen day fasting, and also ate meat, he should suffer death. But on the other hand it may be considered by a priest if he may have eaten meat by some exigency.
5. If someone killed a bishop or priest or deacon too, he should be executed in similar fashion.
