Lesser Armenia and Little Armenia are not identical. It is Little Armenia that refers to the Medieval Mediterranean Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. Whereas Lesser Armenia is a geographical name given to the territories east to the region of Greater Armenia or Armenia Major. This distinction has been utilized by the Romans. In Armenian historiography in particular, there is clear-cut distinction between Great Armenia (Armenia Major; Mets Hayk in Armenian), Lesser Armenia (Armenia Minor; Pokr Hayk in Armenian) and Cilicia. Mostly in Western Literature the Medieval Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia was also referred to as Little Armenia (not Lesser Armenia). This name has been given only after the creation of the Armenian Kingdom in Cilicia in the Middle Ages. Whereas the name and the region of Lesser Armenia dates back to the Antiquity.
