Wednesday frog edit

This has sort of turned into a bit of an edit war, so I'm going to try to end this. I think that the name "Wednesday Frog" should stay, because while it's not an official name by any standard, a large number of people only know this frog because of the meme, and also call it "The Wednesday Frog". There is also a change.org petition (which I can't link to because of the spam filter) to change the name which has 6,523 signatures so far. (Not exactly reliable, but it shows that some people call the frog that). I agree that the main title of the article should stay, but the alternate name should not be removed. twotwos (talk) 23:42, 29 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

It should not be listed as a name of the species. A separate section about the meme might be appropriate.Dseriyes (talk) 23:59, 29 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I added a section about the meme. "Wednesday frog" is not a legitimate alternate name. No one uses that name to talk about the organism, they are talking about the meme. Dseriyes (talk) 00:09, 30 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Good point. Thanks! twotwos (talk) 01:43, 30 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Even the page cited does not call it the "Wednesday frog". DAVilla (talk) 15:38, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

We must mention Wednesday somewhere in the page. ATandem (talk) 02:28, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

"Wednesday Frog" could be used as a nickname, similar to "Hippo Frog" edit

I've noticed the discussion regarding adding the name "Wednesday Frog" to the list of names for the Lepidobatrachus laevis. I've seen a largely negative response to it, mainly due to the fact that the species is not referred to as Wednesday Frog scientifically. However, the names "Hippo Frog" and "Wide-mouth" frog are included as official names for the frog; therefore, I don't see why the Wednesday Frog should not be included as an official name or nickname as well. Although it is not an official name for the frog, it's a common way to refer to it, just like the other names included.

Some minor details about this page edit

On the first line of the article, the page says that this frog is "wildly known as Budgett's frog." This is probably a typo; the phrase should instead read "widely known as the Budgett's frog." Additionally, the article does not mention that the name "Budgett's frog" comes from its discoverer, who has his own article. This is relevant information to the subject matter, and I believe it should be added. — Preceding Please stop. (talk) 00:01, 13 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why I think that this page should include something about Wednesday edit

I put some text after the sentence that says "It has acquired a number of popular nicknames, including hippo frog, Freddy Krueger frog, and escuerzo de agua.". I put an invisible comment with arguments about why it should mention something about Wednesday in the page, and the edit got blocked because it was an "unconstructive edit". I put what I wanted to add below.

It is also sometimes referred to as the Wednesday frog due to it being in a popular Internet meme about Wednesday.

(I also put the following text in an invisible comment) Before you remove this, please read the following text. I think that we should include the reference to the "It is Wednesday my dudes" meme because even though the frogs themselves have nothing to do with Wednesdays, this frog is connected to Wednesdays because of the internet. This page should include information about this frog being a meme because I think Wikipedia pages should include all the information about what the page is about. For example, if you look at the Among Us page, you can see that it has nothing about the "amogus" meme, even though amogus is an important part of Among Us' popularity. One of Wikipedia's uses is to gather information, and I don't think it's as effective when you can't add (what I think is) the most important information about this frog. Sorry that this comment is so long.

I hope you have a great Wednesday my dudes (even though it's not Wednesday right now) Yavidhi (talk) 18:50, 20 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
