Cyrus edit

Is this person the same as Cyrus L.W. Eidlitz listed at Eidlitz, or otherwise related? Gene Nygaard 08:41, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

This section is supposed to be for related topics not already referenced in the article. Both Cyrus L. W. Eidlitz and Marc Eidlitz are identified in the article and linked, so do not belong in this section, per WP. Parkwells (talk) 23:25, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Actually, there is no policy which covers the "see also" section, there is only a guideline, which says:

Whether a link belongs in the "See also" section is ultimately a matter of editorial judgment and common sense. The links in the "See also" section should be relevant, should reflect the links that would be present in a comprehensive article on the topic, and should be limited to a reasonable quantity. As a general rule the "See also" section should not repeat links which appear in the article's body or its navigation boxes. Thus, many high-quality, comprehensive articles do not have a "See also" section.

The links in the "See also" section do not have to be directly related to the topic of the article, because one purpose of the "See also" links is to enable readers to explore topics that are only peripherally relevant.

In deciding whether a link should be in the see also section or not, we should always keep the needs of the readers in mind. We should not require them to go searching back through the article for a link when they're through reading the text and are sitting at the "see also" section, when we have the capability of providing them with a link right where they are already for something they're likely to want to know more about. Thus, mere repetition should never be a hard-and-fast rule, there should always be a common-sense evaluation on whether the links in that place to those subjects will be helpful to the reader or not. I believe the links I provided there would be helpful, or else I wouldn't have put them there in the first place. Beyond My Ken (talk) 00:48, 27 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
