Regarding the statement that Rysanek knew better than to attempt such roles as Isolde (I'm paraphrasing), she didn't take on Isolde because Karl Boehm counseled her against attempting it. Partly because it would have been a tough sing but also because she would have been compared with Birgit Nilsson. Rysanek said that she nonethless regretted not performing Isolde.
