New TBBT character articles

I'm in the midst of creating the new articles for the main TBBT characters, as was discussed briefly on the "List of TBBT characters" talk page previously. I have a limited time to work with at the moment, and after my edits there are still a lot of cite errors on the new articles due to cites not being complete (as they were simply copied from the original article). I will continue to fix these issues later today into tomorrow, but in the meantime welcome all other users to assist in the transition.

The original article, List of characters in The Big Bang Theory, can either be merged into The Big Bang Theory, or better yet, changed to incorporate the new articles (i.e., the full descriptions are removed in favor of shorter descriptions, and the list of secondary/tertiary characters remains. I recommend the latter, which I will do upon return to editing tomorrow. Thanks. — `CRAZY`(lN)`SANE` 17:35, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Restructuring the article: new sections

The articles of the main characters, Leonard Hofstadter, Sheldon Cooper, Penny (The Big Bang Theory), Howard Wolowitz, and Rajesh Koothrappali, are growing in size but without a proper structure. I propose creating standard sections in which to put information: Personality, Family, Work, and Relationships. I believe the show centers mostly around these topics, so the information would fit nicely. I'm not saying these are the only sections that will ever be used, but they are a good start; perhaps they will need to be modified in the future. Also, let's keep the content complete but encyclopedic; there is no need for an indiscriminate collection of information. 189.235.132.118 (talk) 17:04, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Referencing episodes

I suggest using this format to reference the episodes

<ref name="S01E01">{{Cite episode
|title=Pilot
|episodelink=List of The Big Bang Theory episodes#ep1
|series=The Big Bang Theory
|serieslink=The Big Bang Theory
|airdate=September 24, 2007
|season=1
|number=1}}</ref>

as suggested in Template:Cite episode.

The "episodelink" field includes the link to the appropriate episode in this way List of The Big Bang Theory episodes#ep1. The number in "#ep1" refers to the continuous episode number in the series, not within a season. For example, The Griffin Equivalence is episode 4 of season 2, but it is referenced as List of The Big Bang Theory episodes#ep21.

The citation in the actual article may very well be in "horizontal" format.

<ref name="S01E01">{{Cite episode|title=Pilot|episodelink=... etc.

This has already been implemented in List of characters in The Big Bang Theory. 189.235.132.118 (talk) 17:04, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

recent edit to leonard's relation section

i note an ip address person made a recent edit 1 i dislike the phraseology of the sentence "tried to have sex with". to me, it sounds like he tried to have non-consensual sex, the way it is worded. could someone who is good with words change it, please? Phil Nolte (talk) 18:22, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Robert & Douglas Hofstadter

In February 2010 a paragraph was added to this article referring to Robert and Douglas Hofstadter.[1] This was removed as it was unverified and showed no direct link to the article other than a coincidental name link. The content was again added on December 23, 2010.[2] It was removed for the same reason but was restored the next day.[3] I again removed it and left a note to the editor on his talk page, with an invitation to discuss the matter here.[4] Instead of discussing the issue as per WP:BRD the editor restored the content with a couple of citations,[5] and left some comments on my talk page.[6] I have again left an invitation on the editor's talk page, since the added content is still very flawed.[7] One of the citations used to support the content was The Big Bang Theory Wiki. WP:SPS states "self-published media—whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, personal pages on social networking sites, Internet forum postings, or tweets—are largely not acceptable. This includes any website whose content is largely user-generated". This is certainly the case with The Big Bang Theory Wiki. However, it doesn't stop there. The page in question opens with "NOTE: Edited from Wikipedia:", clearly identifying it a circular reference. WP:RS#Primary, secondary, and tertiary sources sates "Wikipedia articles (or Wikipedia mirrors) are not reliable sources for any purpose." This clearly makes The Big Bang Theory Wiki an inappropriate source and I have removed it accordingly.[8] The other reference used in the disputed content is imparja.com. Imparja is a TV network in central Australia and may at first appear to be a reliable source however a google check reveals that the content seems to have been edited from content at bigbangtheory.wikia.com, another wiki and therefore not a reliable source. The claim that "He is named after Nobel prize winner Robert Hofstadter" is not supported by any source other than Imparja and therefore seems dubious, given Imparja's apparent reliance on wikis for its content. As it stands now, this article does not claim that Leonard is named after Robert Hofstadter, only that they share a last name. However, this is only a coincidence and not sufficient justification for inclusion in this article and especially not in the lede, which is supposed to summarise the main topics of the article, not introduce content that is not covered in the article. --AussieLegend (talk) 16:05, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

<personal attack removed> either the sources are the copy of WP, then they should show no reference to the Nobel, or they do have the ref, then they are NOT a copy of WP. Now go check this source, which claims it stands on its own feet: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheBigBangTheory .--Environnement2100 (talk) 09:58, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
That site is a wiki, and therefore not a reliable source, as I've explained above. The site boasts "We are not Wikipedia. We're a buttload more informal. We encourage breezy language and original thought." Original thought is not acceptable here. Everything has to be verifiable. --AussieLegend (talk) 23:09, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
The reliability of the source used has been raised at WP:RSN. --AussieLegend (talk) 00:20, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

polish american ?

why is leonard in th "Fictional American people of Polish descent" category — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.5.184.243 (talk) 11:23, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Good question. It was first added in January 2010 without explanation.[9] (The category has since been renamed) --AussieLegend (talk) 11:50, 29 September 2011 (UTC

Leonard's Lactose Intolerance

The depiction of lactose intolerance on TBBT is way off. Persons afflicted with lactose intolerance either cannot digest or have difficulty digesting fresh milk products. Leonard is frequently represented as intolerant to all milk products; but cured milk products like cheese, sour cream, etc. are almost lactose free and do not pose a problem for intolerance sufferers. Leonard is frequently represented as likely to fart having had milk - this would be a symptom in a person with a mild lactose intolerance. Anyone with more of a problem would have fairly violent diarrhea soon after any fresh milk intake - way more than a fart. Pyrrhura.molinae (talk) 03:56, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the comment, however, we cannot add this information. The show creators have established his lactose intolerance; whether this is a good depiction or not is another matter.---137.132.22.254 (talk) 07:12, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

American-rule full stops

This is an American English article. It ought to consistantly use American spelling and grammar. In American English, commas and full stops go inside the quotation marks. Kindly do not revert to Commonwealth English. Thanks Paul, in Saudi (talk) 07:37, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

WP:ENGVAR doesn't apply to punctuation. Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Punctuation, specifically MOS:LQ applies. --AussieLegend (talk) 07:48, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

German Surname

Hofstadter (Hofstädter, Hofstetter) is a typical German surname. Is the character German American or possibly German Jewish? -- 91.65.22.209 (talk) 02:11, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

That was never suggested. Mezigue (talk) 11:58, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Unless you consider the spelling, and having Judd Hirsch play his father, as a suggestion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.125.208.10 (talk) 17:12, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Silly humor in caption of Photo of Leonard Hofstadter. . .

"Johnny Galecki as Dr. Leonard Leakey Hofstadter" Should read "Leonard" Hofstadter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.3.83.254 (talk) 02:43, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

I don't see the humour. Dr is his title and Leakey is his middle name.[1] --AussieLegend () 08:27, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
