Pronunciation of her name edit
Fadel does not pronounce her last name "falden", as anyone can hear who listens to her reporting on National Public Radio. Linguistatlunch (talk) 14:10, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
Pronunciation edit
She does does not pronounce her name "falden." You are misinterpreting the Arabic pronunciation. There are no exact matches in English for sounds in Arabic, only the best interpretation English has to offer. The vowel sounds in her name are almost nonexistent. Possibly a better English spelling of her last name would be Fdl. The "L" at the end should be pronounced with a much more flattened tongue giving it a sound that could be interpreted by the English ear to have a sound we might associate with an "N" or to be somewhere between an "N" and an "L." Tweet See new Tweets Tweet Leila Fadel @LeilaFadel · Aug 20, 2020 Thank you! Some hear an "n" and think I'm saying Falden rather than that "dh" sound. I remember doing my first sign off for @NPR
years ago and deciding "Ok, I'm going to pronounce my family name correctly." People have been asking how to say it ever since 😂

This is a niche tweet but I live for when @LeilaFadel pronounces the ض in her name on @npratc
