Talk:Leeds Civic Trust

Latest comment: 3 years ago by Yoninah in topic Did you know nomination

The article could be more neutral "as a response to the city's attitude towards and destruction of historic buildings" sounds like a quote from a letter to the editor of the local newspaper. Victuallers (talk) 14:24, 14 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Charlie's Nightclub Rainbow Plaque

  •   Not sure whether this counts as a new article as an article existed before it was deleted and turned into a redirect in 2009. However, this is certainly "new and improved content" and qualifies as 5X expansion, in any case. The article has 5597 characters of readable prose and has inline citations of reliable sources throughout.
Lower Kirkgate Townscape Heritage section needs a bit of a rewrite to remove some close paraphrasing.[[1]] Time to dig out that thesaurus me thinks.
Both hooks are cited in the article and are correctly formatted with fewer than 200 characters. They are moderately interesting I suppose but neither blue plaques nor rainbow trails are unusual, or exclusive to Leeds. My choice would be, "Unlike similar civic societies in the UK, Leeds Civic Trust does not own or operate any historic property". Unless there some LGBT celebration coming up?
The image proposed is not in the article. I don't know whether this is an issue or not. The licensing is okay however. --Ykraps (talk) 08:34, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for getting to this, Ykraps. I've made some wording changes to the article to avoid phrasing being too close. I do like your suggestion for an alternate hook but I don't think I have a direct cite for it. If you look under the Richard Voss section at the bottom of [2], it mentions the two properties that are owned. Would that do as a source? Rcsprinter123 (express) 12:49, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
  •   Best stick with what we have if we can't find a source that says that directly. I have rewritten some more close paraphrasing in the aticle and I'm now satisfied. --Ykraps (talk) 14:47, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
  •   There is still close paraphrasing from the sources:
  • Source: In 2013 it embarked on a project to survey the external condition of all the Grade II listed buildings in Leeds Metropolitan District. Since then its volunteers have surveyed 1500 of the 3000 buildings, providing the local authority’s Conservation Team with a photographic record and description of the condition of the buildings.

Since then its volunteers have surveyed 1500 of the 3000 structures, providing the City Council's conservation team with a photographic record and description of the state of the buildings.
  • Source: to secure the long-term conservation of its historic buildings, most notably the First White Cloth Hall (1710-11).
  • Article: to support and advocate the long-term conservation of its historic buildings, most notably the First White Cloth Hall (1711).
  • Source: The Trust has argued that public transport should be provided in advance of first home completions so that future residents are not required to use cars from the outset.

  • @Rcsprinter123: thank you. Please see the further editing I did to remove the close paraphrasing. Restoring tick per Ykraps' review. Yoninah (talk) 10:52, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • @Rcsprinter123: please add the Charlie's Nightclub plaque image to the article so we can promote it at DYK. Thank you, Yoninah (talk) 19:07, 16 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
