Talk:Learn at Home 8-12

Latest comment: 13 years ago by Lclairem in topic School or program?

This is a page for a public school in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith school district in BC, Canada. I understood that public schools were allowed to have pages, so this should not contravene Wiki expectations. Thanks :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lclairem (talkcontribs) 06:14, 9 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

And while schools are exempt from speedy deletion under criterion A7, they are not exempt from the general rules of notability and verifiability. Yes, the article is young, and I'm sure as it gets expanded, sources will fall into place. However, if this stays a stub for a prolonged period of time, it could be nominated for deletion. —C.Fred (talk) 06:35, 9 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you C.Fred. I am very new to this, hopefully I can make it fit with Wiki standards. Thanks for your help and feedback. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lclairem (talkcontribs) 06:51, 9 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

School or program? edit

Is Learn at Home a school unto itself, or is it a program of the school district? If a student completes the diploma requirements via the program, what institution awards the diploma? —C.Fred (talk) 20:10, 9 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Interesting question. Learn@Home is its own school with its own ministry issued school number. Graduation documents in British Columbia are issued directly from the Ministry of Education, but they are sent to Learn@Home to be signed by the principal and distributed to the students. It is important to note, however, that students may elect to take a single course, or series of courses, at Learn@Home while attending another school. If they designate their bricks-and-mortar school as their primary school, then the diploma would be sent there. With the advent of new technologies, and new learning environments, the idea of a 'school' is changing in our province. Lclairem (talk) 01:17, 10 December 2010 (UTC)lclairemReply
