Why

I am curious to know why is there 17 seasons of law and order and only 1-5 and season 14 are only available to purchase ?  —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.161.128.71 (talk) 07:10, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Corruption Empire DVD

Why was the entry for the Corruption Empire DVD in the DVD releases table removed? It had a citation, and can be purchased from Amazon, so feel it should be included here

I will not re-add this to avoid starting an edit war, can any one with an opinion please state it here? Thanks  —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.129.20.194 (talk) 23:23, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Attribution needed

"Some have speculated that the transforming cast has contributed to the longevity of the series because the regular appearance of new faces has constantly changed the show's dynamic, allowing it to repeatedly reinvent itself."

It says that there needs to be attribution for "some."  In the bonus features for L&O DVDs - seasons 1 to 5 - one of the cast members says that they think that the reason L&O has had such longevity is the constant changing of actors/characters.  I'm not sure what season/what cast member, but this might be something to look into.

Anthony Anderson news

I just got the new TV Guide with all the news on the new TV season. For the upcoming episodes of Law and Order this season, it states that there are 5 episodes left. Jesse L. Martin returns on the 23rd ofApril for his final episode (That's when it returns) and the following week, Anthony Anderson arrives as Kevin Bernard, who is fresh from Internal Affairs. 69.28.232.125 (talk) 15:37, 26 March 2008 (UTC)samusek2

Cast table

These comments were copied from my talk page regarding this change by User:DeadmanUndertaker to the cast table. I've reverted the change once but the user reverted back. As I am not interested in edit warring, I'm letting the discussion continue here. Note: Frankly I don't know what "obscene behavior" he was taking about, and anyone can review my very short edit history and see my conduct. Wkyt07 (talk) 02:23, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Look man Sergeant and Detective are two different things. They are not they same role. Not in real life, and not in Law and Order. Take Law and Order SVU for example: John Munch was a Senior Detective promoted to Sergeant. Although they seem to be they same role, they are not and shouldn't be treated as such. Also I recant what I said. However if you can get an Admin to overrule me then by all means I will back off otherwise we will both get banned from editing. DeadmanUndertaker 01:48, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

By the way I was saying that to more experienced then me editors who didn't think it was a good idea, but seeing as you are the only one who disapproves then I guess I am right. Also you should probably look up the difference between Detective and Sergeant. I have been led to believe that Sergeant is above Detective, although no one can ever tell with all the stupid ranks they have. DeadmanUndertaker 01:53, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Also if you are looking for an Admin I suggest LAX. He is an Admin who knows his way around. Also if you wish to make a comment back to me then go to my talk page, but I should warn you that any obscene behavior will be considered personal, attacks towards me, and personal attacks are considered abuse which will get you banned. DeadmanUndertaker 01:57, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Remember that we are all here to edit, and although we don't always agree, we can usually come to a compromise. Please let there be no hard feelings, and I hope you enjoy your time here. Again write on my talk page for response which you can go to here User talk:DeadmanUndertaker. DeadmanUndertaker 02:00, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't know why you are replying to yourself since this is my first reply to your comments. And frankly I don't know what "obscene behavior" you are talking about. But since there isn't an existing discussion on this matter, I'm going to put these comments on Talk:Law & Order so other editors can debate. Wkyt07 (talk) 02:07, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Look noob nobody actually cares, but everyone knows that Sergeant and Detective are two different roles. In other words your not going to win. If somehow you do I don't really care, I am a watcher really. Also I meant don't commit any obscene behavior. Have a good life. P.S. No comments will be read nor acknowledged. DeadmanUndertaker 02:12, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Firstly Obscene Behavior mean Offensive Behavior. In my defense I was trying to be helpful. He doesn't want to accept my help, and he doesn't understand the difference between Sergeant and Detective. Which is why we are discussing this. Review history of Law and Order, my edits and his and you decide. I have added info and made seperate colluomns for Sergeant and Detective. He wants to merge Detective and Sergeant. I am leaving this matter to editors more experienced than I. Hopefully you agree with me but if you don't oh well, I understand the different roles and who had them. I don't think Wkyt07 does. Good Luck with your desicion editors the ball is in your park, as I am tired of argueing with people. Good Day. DeadmanUndertaker 02:35, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

The article has always placed Senior Detective/Sergeant in the same column, until DeadmanUndertaker changed it last week without discussion. He insists that somehow the "Senior Detective" role was vacant for the first two seasons, and was filled after the second season and the "Sergeant" role became vacant for 17 seasons after that. That strikes me as a very strange reasoning and contrary to what is generally accepted. Wkyt07 (talk) 02:52, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

A quick search on The New York Times website reveals who is correct (link). The graphic from July 2006 arranges the table exactly as things were before DeadmanUndertaker's edits. It is clearly understood by almost everyone that the characters played by Paul Sorvino and Jerry Orbach serve identical purposes, and the difference is in the title only.  Wkyt07 (talk) 03:39, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

That chart doesn't make any sense. Sure the purposes were identical but you cannot deny the fact that they are two different roles. By your logic we should say that John Munch in SVU is still a Senior Detective even though he is clearly Sergeant. That chart is clearly messed up. Until you have a valid chart we stick with what I did since there are two different positions which should mean two collounms. DeadmanUndertaker 05:05, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

If anybody reads this stuff please comment I think we need more than just our opinions on this matter. It's definetly time at this point. DeadmanUndertaker 05:17, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Any discrepancies between the two positions can be easily addressed by putting both titles in the heading and/or "(Sergeant)" after the first two and "(Detective)" after the later ones, or some such edit. An extra column is unnecessary, and the NY Times seems to endorse this arrangement. The other edits that were reverted were much better than the current version, notably the tedious list of executive producers and the apparent ridiculous attempt to mention any location a scene was ever filmed. "New York City and New Jersey" is fine. -R. fiend (talk) 06:10, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
I should add that the only reason I approve of a sergeant column on the SVU table is to allow it to reflect the Fin/Lake partnership in season 9. It's a bit more complicated of a show when you realize that, twice in the show's history, there have been five detectives rather than four: in season one and season nine. Redfarmer (talk) 01:51, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Why has Nick Falco been added to the cast table again? The character only appeared in four episodes at the end of the 15th season. It was always understood that Falco was temporaily assigned there so was not strictly "replacing" Ed Green. If Falco were included shouldn't Alfred Wentworth be included under District Attorney? A brief mention of Falco in the section paragraph is enough. Also if the Also Starring column is only going include one name then the column might as well be eliminated. Right now the cast table is badly formatted and that column is just wasting space. Wkyt07 (talk) 04:57, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

My understanding of the table is that it was primarily included originally as a quick way to show all the current and former cast members over the years. The reason the "also starring" column only has one person is that only one person has ever been listed in the show as also starring. J.K. Simmons was always listed as a guest star. You can include Wentworth if you wish. The difference is Falco was in the opening credits. Wentworth was not. Redfarmer (talk) 00:17, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
That's the thing: I think both Falco and Wentworth are too minor to be included, and shouldn't really be considered to be cast changes. I'm unsure about the significance of the opening credits. Practically though, it makes sense to exclude them. Also, I understand why the Also Starring column only has one person, but I suggest removing the column entirely and focusing on the principal cast, like the way the table was before. Wkyt07 (talk) 21:09, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
I'd be against both changes. It is significant that Falco appeared in the opening credits (and a significant amount of users felt the same way when they voted to keep his article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nicolas Falco but delete Wentworth's at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alfred Wentworth). You also refer to the rest of the cast as "principle" while forgetting that Olivet was considered principle for two seasons (she appeared in almost every episode of season three and in the cast photos of both seasons three and four). To exclude them would be to exclude part of the cast. Redfarmer (talk) 23:43, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Someone keeps changing the cast table in the info table to include every cast member who has been on the show in the last 20 years in order of appearance. If the show was no longer on the air, I would not have an issue with this, but I think it's confusing to people. The way I think it should be done is the present cast (Sisto/Anderson/Merkerson/Roache/de la Garza/Waterston) are listed first, then former cast members. Yes? No? SigKauffman (talk) 03:30, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Is it possible to put the main cast table back onto the main law and order page as it seems to have completely disappeared and we now have section which is, imho a little too big and can be confusing for users?Joshuaselig (talk) 10:04, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Season 19

Season 19 should be removed from the table because it hasn't started yet. When it starts this November it should be re-added.  —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.116.129.138 (talk) 02:14, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Doesn't matter if it has started airing yet or not if the cast has been confirmed for the 19th season. Redfarmer (talk) 14:31, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Adding, "The fact that 'Law & Order,' in its 12th year, is ranked fifth among all primetime series speaks volumes not only about the strength of Dick Wolf's original creation, but also about Barry's producing talent. We look forward to many more years of fruitful partnership with Barry both in terms of 'Law & Order' and beyond.

Strange...

The text under the Broadcast section of this article seems very strange (I'm sure there's an official wikipedia term for it). Specifically, here's an exceprpt: "If you have any five-hundred cable channels that play continual reruns of the show, you will see the star of the show..." To me, this seems like the author is making a somewhat sarcastic and critical remark about cable television, which is unrelated to the article. This strange method seems to continue throughout the section.  —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xonybubba (talkcontribs) 22:31, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Homicide: Life on the Street

Now, I don't know whether anyone will remember this show, but I'm pretty sure the Dick Wolf created this one prior to his work on Law and Order. Shouldn't the 'related shows' section of the contents have a link for this show as well?Lightningbarer (talk) 21:15, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Homicide was not created by Wolf. He was friends with the creator, however, and had several crossovers with Homicide. Redfarmer (talk) 22:12, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Longest Running Crime series

Its not. The Bill and Taggart both are longer, they have 25 seasons, and both are still in production.Deathlibrarian (talk) 15:12, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

It's widely touted in America as the longest running crime show. As neither of those series are widely broadcast in America, the distinction is probably referring to longest running American crime drama. It's similar to how The Simpsons is touted as the longest running series on prime time television despite the fact Last of the Summer Wine has been on for 31 series. Law & Order: Los Angeles

The entry on Law & Order: Los Angeles is wrong, stating that it will be the first in the franchise to be set outside of New York. Which is obviously false, since Law & Order: UK is set in London, the French and Russian adaptations of Criminal Intent are in Paris and Moscow respectively, and the reality series was in California.

Can someone please correct this?  —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.152.180.93 (talk) 20:27, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Numerous releases, including the source this is based on, have implied that Dick Wolf and the other producers do not view the adaptations as being part of the franchise, especially since none of them have ever crossed over with an American series. Thus, we are using the series count specified in the press release. Anything else would be WP:OR. Redfarmer (talk) 18:27, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Dick Wolf believes that Law & Order: UK is definitely part of the franchise because he had a lot to do with this series and a crossover is in the works. Therefore, it is the SIXTH series also to be created.  —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.110.212.171 (talk) 06:16, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
As  I said, that's not what the source says and you have yet to quote a source where he says it is a member of the franchise rather than an adaptation. Quote a source or it will not be changed. Redfarmer (talk) 13:27, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/showbiz/s/1096326_law__order_uk_bradley_walsh near the bottom of the article.  —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.110.212.171 (talk) 19:24, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
It says he hasn't ruled out a crossover. It does not say he considers it a part of the franchise. Homicide: Life on the Street, Conviction, In Plain Sight, and New York Undercover have all featured crossovers without actually being a member of the franchise. It's one thing to crossover. Besides, it hasn't crossed over. Once again, no original research. Redfarmer (talk) 02:18, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
so does that mean that the reality show wasn't part of the franchise either then? because, as stated, that wasn't based in NY. and in your zeal to criticize "unsigned's" questions, you never addressed the fact that the article still says "LOLA" will be the first outside of NY. since the article refers to "crime and punishment" as a member of the franchise, this is clearly wrong. -Heterodoxus (talk) 02:44, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

(Removed irrelevant ad hominem attack) The fact that he talked about the possibility of a crossover means it's part of the franchise. He hasn't done that about the Russian or French adaptions. He's never discussed them to the lengths he has about this one.  —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.110.212.171 (talk) 06:15, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Consider this your warning for incivility. And no, length of discussion does not make it a part of the franchise. And before you throw around generalizations and stereotypes, you probably ought to get your facts straight, like the fact that I don't live in England... German spin off?

I believe there's a German spin off, with episodes in different cities. Jim Lacey (talk) 17:17, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

In fact, it's not a spin-off (as in "not officially endorsed by the original franchise"). Im Namen des Gesetzes (In the name of Justice) shares the same basis than the original Law and Order show, but the stories are wholly original, and not adaptations of existing scripts, as with L & O: UK or Paris: Enquêtes Criminelles. And it's set entirely in Berlin. I just added it to the adaptation section. 82.120.19.117 (talk) 12:44, 10 March 2013 (UTC)Gérard Morvan

Table of DVDs

Why is it the table for DVDs is deleted?  I keep the references, just the same as some other shows have, but the table is always being removed.  A table would make it look nicer, less cluttered and easier to read.  Eventually there will be twenty seasons listed, a table would take up less room too. 174.91.250.118 (talk) 03:47, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

For one, you've been blocked countless times and you refuse to communicate (see your talk page).  When you've been blocked, as your main account has been blocked indefinitely), you lose your editing privileges and are not allowed to edit. If you do, as you are jumping from IP to IP, it can and will be reverted.  Learn to discuss and talk to other editors and you might be able to stay.  —Mike Allen 04:08, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Funny how you say I have nothing better to do, when you can't seem to stay off of Wikipedia, where you're not wanted.  Good more IPs to add to your rangeblock.  You will be reported and block without question for now on.  Congratulations.  —Mike Allen 18:25, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
As for the question at hand - why was the table deleted (I know, this may be in the Talk archives, but I don't want to have to hunt for them now..)? Using a table format for the season releases seems standard on most of the other TV show pages I've seen, and it would look cleaner. If nothing else, finding a way to remove the "[93][94][95][96][97][98][99][100][101][102][103]" messiness.. Jimw338 (talk) 21:32, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

I know that it is still early to say that L&O will be airing it's next season on AMC but having in mind that negotiatons are beeing conducted shouldn't the series status be changed to something else rather then "ended"?--akujy (talk) 19:46, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm confused about the series' status; I've seen some TNT commercials for "new" episodes, but I'm not sure if these are really newly produced episodes, or just re-runs that will be "network premiered" on TNT. Krellkraver (talk) 18:47, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
