Another ship? edit

Was there not an earlier vessel of this name, which was attacked by an Argentine gunboat in 1976? Drutt (talk) 23:38, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think it would have been mentioned here. Timeline_of_the_history_of_the_Falkland_Islands#20th_century has the information you state, but no reference. In 1976, the polar RRS ships were RRS Bransfield and RRS John Biscoe. Halcyon_class_minesweeper, HMS Sharpshooter (1936) was renamed SHACKLETON in 1953,[1] and replaced by the Hecla class survey vessels in the early 1960s. There is another mention of a Shackleton at History_of_research_ships#Increasing_collaboration. Still a mystery. Finavon (talk) 01:48, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
[2] reports it was Ernest Shackleton, but she was not launched until 1995! --Finavon (talk) 07:47, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Information gathered into RRS Shackleton. -Finavon (talk) 12:31, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Conflicting information edit

The current revision of the page, and https://www.bas.ac.uk/polar-operations/sites-and-facilities/facility/rrs-ernest-shackleton/ this link states that the ship was sold in 2019, however this conflicts with information presented on this https://www.bas.ac.uk/about/about-bas/history/history-of-bas-ships/ page. Based off other sources it does seem more likely that it was exchanged in 2019, but my concern is still there notadev (talk) 00:17, 18 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

I could not find conflicting information in the latter BAS link. Tupsumato (talk) 18:03, 18 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
