Dubious conquest edit
The following bolded statement is not factually accurate.
- "An ally of the Toucouleur empire's El Hadj Umar Tall, Maba convinced Lat-Dior both to convert, and to aid non-Wolof Islamic states of the region against their common foes."
Maba Diakhou Bâ and Lat Dior fought against the Serer people at The Battle of Fandane-Thiouthioune. The Serers of Sine adhered to Serer religion not Islam. Maba who spent a lot of time fighting against the non-muslims such as the Serers and the Mandinka people of Baddibu did not aid non muslims in anything. In the Mandinka kingdom of Baddibu, Maba killed Mandinka pagans and sold slaves. He was also a supporter of Governor Darcey (British governor in the Gambia) against the Animist King of Baddibu (Jereba Marong). When the King of Sine - Maad a Sinig Kumba Ndoffene Famak Joof was fighting against the French at the Battle of Logandème there was no Maba or his patrons like Lat Dior (see: Niokhobaye Diouf. "Chronique du royaume du Sine." Suivie de notes sur les traditions orales et les sources écrites concernant le royaume du Sine par Charles Becker et Victor Martin. (1972). Bulletin de l'Ifan, Tome 34, Série B, n° 4, (1972). p726). "Ma Bâ destroyed and pillaged, burned villages, sold slaves and killed pagans..." (Martin A. - EDIT: Just figured out what the statement is trying to say after going through the article again. Though my remark above is not appropriate regarding the edit cited above, it is appropriate for the following statement (the same paragraph as above) :
- "He converted to Islam around 1861, and made common cause with other Wolof and Fulani states to resist French colonialism."
- This is a propaganda statement and is made in reference to Maba who engaged in treaties with both the French and the British in the Gambia for his own benefit. (see Klein). Further the statement is not sourced and at best dubious. Therefore my tag still stands.Tamsier (talk)
- This statement is made in reference to Lat Dior, who died in battle with the French, not to Maba. Your last remark is not appropriate either. It seems that you have fundamental diffuculties figuring out what English sentences mean and that you are overfilled with bias against Maba. 77.79.154.221 (talk) 04:41, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
