Talk:Last Summer (1969 film)

Latest comment: 10 months ago by Trey Maturin in topic Rhoda “plump”?

This was the first "R" movie I saw in the summer of 1969. Remembering that I was 14 at the time and they didn't ask me for an ID at the theater. Bwmoll3 (talk) 10:39, 16 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Rating of theatrical release? edit

The article says that the film's X-rated version never was released to theaters. This, however, is not true. I remember seeing newspaper ads for the film -- yes, I'm that old -- displaying the "X" logo and definition. I also remember being surprised when, some weeks later, an "R" rating was displayed instead. Of course, relying on my memory would constitute the dread "original research." What would be considered a sufficiently reliable source: microfilm or archival display ads from a contemporaneous newspaper, like the New York Daily News (where I saw the ads) or the New York Times?71.183.0.72 (talk) 03:58, 11 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

The original X-rated version did see the light of day, if only briefly. Most people who saw the film in theaters probably saw the R-rated cut but for at least a short while the uncut X version was shown. Here is a link to an photo of an ad for the original "Rated X" cut of the film: https://www.broadwayworld.com/board/printthread.php?thread=1071403&boardid=2 With this evidence, I have changed the article to reflect the fact that the "rated X" version did get at least a brief theatrical release. --Notcharliechaplin (talk) 20:02, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Rhoda “plump”? edit

Does the plot synopsis need to describe Rhoda as plump? The character's weight is never mentioned in the movie, and the actress herself was not plump. Perhaps the novel describes her that way, I haven't read it, but it doesn't make sense to me to use the word when describing the character as depicted in the movie. Agreed. I have removed the word. — Trey Maturin 17:58, 23 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
