Name of article edit

It looks like there are at least four names for this in common use: 'Laschamp event', 'Laschamps event', 'Laschamp excursion', 'Laschamps excursion'. The second word may be capitalised in each case, making eight variants. I don't know the best way to handle this. 112.119.11.22 (talk) 20:41, 18 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Some - including Gavin Schmidt [1] would prefer it with an S, since it is named after Laschamps. EOS even has an article pointing out that it is wrong (https://eos.org/opinions/changing-name-for-earths-changing-poles). OTOH EOS says It is unfortunate that such an important event in Earth’s history is misspelled in all scientific documents which suggeststhat no-S is how it is universally used William M. I have added some more redirects. Perhaps we can have some text about EOS opinion in the article. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:09, 19 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Having two different names, both emboldened in the article, as currently, suggests these were two separate events. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:27, 22 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
That's how Wikipedia marks multiple names for the same thing, each variant name is in bold when first used in the article (usually in the first line of the lede), and is supposed to suggest the opposite of your suggestion—that they are the same event, just different names. It also helps programs crawling the page to figure out the same. — al-Shimoni (talk) 04:23, 14 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
