Talk:Larry Niven bibliography

Why is this a thing? edit

Why is this a separate page from Larry Niven? Why isn't it included on that page? I noticed that Jerry Pournelle's bibliography is just included in his main article. StarHOG (talk) 15:38, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps a too-belated response, StarHOG, but for the benefit of anyone else reading this: if an author's bibliography is (or becomes) fairly extensive it can make the main article about that author uncomfortably long, difficult to read (particularly on mobile devices) and sometimes slow to load. In such cases it's preferable, as here, to maintain it as a separate linked article. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.122.57.208 (talk) 22:15, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Burning Mountain edit

Could anyone please tell me if Burning Mountain should be listed here? Given Pournelle's death, I'm not sure if it'll ever come out, and the last detailed mention of it that I could find is from 2007. I say "detailed", since this page on larryniven.net says it'll come out in 2022, though I'm not sure.--Thylacine24 (talk) 21:35, 14 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thylacine24, I think it's worth retaining the mention. I've seen such as-yet-unpublished works listed in bibliographies of other writers, and given Niven and Pournelle's popularity, there would likely be a commercial desire to get it finished and published, if the possibly convoluted rights could be untangled.
Even if it's never completed, future literary researchers might want to know of its existence and approach the literary executors for permission to study any MS and notes for it. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.122.57.208 (talk) 22:22, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Tidy up edit

I have commenced a tidy-up of the Bibliography:

  • Cite templates will be used where possible.
  • Tables may be used to organise short stories, poems and/or book reviews.
  • I prefer capitalization and punctuation to follow the standard cataloguing rules in AACR2 and RDA, rather than "title case".
  • Links (either direct or indirect) to potentially unreliable or incomplete digitised copies and to booksellers may be removed.

This is a work in progress; feel free to continue. Sunwin1960 (talk) 10:32, 7 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
