The article is troublesome, or its creator? This honestly seems to be a good-faith effort to create an article oabout a legitimate type of job, though it does need a LOT of work. I've contacted an editor with carrier experience, as I have none. He has been improving and expanding related articles, and he should have a good idea if this page can be expanded or not, or where might be the best place to merge it to. - BillCJ (talk) 05:30, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

I just redid the article so it doesn't look as bad as it did before, but it still needs to be categorized and expanded, if in fact it's something that Wikipedia doesn't have coverage on. Enigma ^message 05:33, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Worldwide view of subject

This article has been tagged for nearly 7 years indicating examples and perspective in this article may not represent a worldwide view of the subject. I acknowledge United States Navy procedures dominate this article; but an historical review of the number of aircraft carriers operated, and the duration and intensity of operation suggests such focus is appropriate. The article describes differences of United Kingdom and Japanese carrier operations, and it would certainly be appropriate to mention differences (if any) for other nations' carrier operations; but the article is not notably deficient in its present state. In the absence of objections, I propose to remove the tag. Thewellman (talk) 17:00, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
I concur - I just added to the section LSOs in different navies 2 sentences describing When Japan & UK discontinued using LSO. What about LSO for France, Russia, India, China - if the ship has arresting gear - some system is needed, NOT necessarily LSOs? Wfoj3 (talk) 22:25, 24 October 2021 (UTC).

ILARTS link does not work!

In the section, - LSO Equipment -, under the sub-section -- ILARTS --, when you click on the link that reads:

Integrated Launch And Recovery Television Surveillance System

You find that it takes you right back to the top of THIS page (Landing Signal Officer)!

I do not know if there should be a page on these very interesting TV monitoring systems for Aircraft Carriers, starting with the "Pilot Landing Aid Television (PLAT)", which is mentioned as being first installed on the USS Coral Sea (and whose dead link I redirected here).

So, someone with a lot of knowledge with these systems can create a new WIKI page covering this topic (and if you do, redirect the link from the USS Coral Sea, please), or else, this "link" (back to the top of the same page!) should simply be removed.
