Proposed Move to New Name edit

According to various reliable sources, the airport has been renamed Lakeland Linder International Airport. A few editors are disputing this. Rather than edit-warring, let's discuss it here. If it has been renamed, it should be moved to the new name. Jacona (talk) 13:05, 11 September 2018 (UTC) Some sources:Reply

Please express any reasons for or against the proposed move. Thanks!Jacona (talk) 13:27, 11 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

FAA (In this table, Lakeland Airport is addressed with "International"): https://www.faa.gov/airports/southern/airport_safety/part139_cert/media/inspection_schedule.pdf FAA (In this valid *at the time of this comment* airport diagram, the FAA has addressed the airport as "Regional": https://skyvector.com/files/tpp/1809/pdf/00939AD.PDF — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewlee8501 (talkcontribs) 13:50, 11 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Support Sure, if several reliable sources state this then I would agree it should be moved. Katniss May the odds be ever in your favor 14:19, 11 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Support. Per policy (WP:NAMECHANGES)"Sometimes, the subject of an article will undergo a change of name. When this occurs, we give extra weight to reliable sources written after the name change is announced. If the reliable sources written after the change is announced routinely use the new name, Wikipedia should follow suit and change relevant titles to match." If one does a little more research on policy, the name used by an individual or organization is generally respected, even when it is controversial a la Chelsea Manning, Kylie Jenner. The new name is Lakeland Linder International Airport, no matter how pretentious it may seem in this case, and I don't see any reason to use the old name merely because some other sites have not yet gotten around to updating it.Jacona (talk) 19:24, 11 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Support Even though I was one of the people who reverted the name back to regional, I would say that I would support this change. Although the name of this airport still uses the word "regional" with the FAA / other international aviation regulatory agencies, I believe the common name of using "international" is more important and should be used in this case. Also from my understanding of the article titles policy just now, using the word international is okay. --KDTW Flyer (Lakeland Linder Regional Airport) 23:54, 11 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

I believe we can conclude Consensus has been reached, as we've had support from the editors who have opposed name changes in the article or for the original move, including myself, Katniss, and KDTW Flyer. Most of the other editors involved were very new to editing and appeared to support the changes with their edits. Jacona (talk) 11:56, 12 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request closure: This move was made a couple of weeks ago: it would be good to close this discussion. The closing instructions recommend closure by someone uninvolved in the discussion. Closing is simple, it requires placing two templates above the conversation {{subst:RM top}} and {{subst:RMnac}} (unless you are an administrator, in which case RMnac is not required), and one at the bottom {{subst:RM bottom}}}. Thanks! Jacona (talk) 17:01, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
