Some history of the dam should be added. From searching it appears that the Lake Murray dam was built in 1918 superseding the older earthen La Mesa Damn (1895), which is now apparently underwater. some links I've come across: http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2013/jan/09/roam-lake-murray-kiowa/ http://scoopsandiego.com/mission_times_courier/columnists/friends_of_lake_murray/friends-of-lake-murray/article_88fad136-9051-11e1-ac7c-0019bb30f31a.html?mode=jqm

Perhaps not as noteworthy, but public recreation on the lake was prohibited for a number of years due to hydrilla infestation. Article at www.fws.gov "Leavitt Hydrilla success story.ppt" 76.88.41.164 (talk) 21:53, 7 June 2014 (UTC) not signed inReply

Lake Murray: Impounded with Water for the City's Water Supply

edit

The City of San Diego owns the water, but the City does not own all the land, that Lake Murray lies upon. Lake Murray was never at any point in time, legally incorporated into the City of San Diego's park system. It is not incorporated into Mission Trails Regional Park or Lake Murray Park. It is zone A-R-1-10, or Agricultural/Residential, not OSP or Open Space Park.

Ordinance Number O-17281, adopted April 17, 1989

edit

Ordinance Number O-17281, adopted April 17, 1989. This ordinance was adopted after the San Diego City Council voted to rezone "City owned" property to Open Space Park, as per the San Diego City Council Minutes, dated April 4, 1989, Item 337, No. 5. Zone Map Drawing C-779, was the designated drawing used to define the borders of the City owned property, that was rezoned to Open Space Park. Lake Murray was not included in this map, because the City did not have complete ownership of the land that Lake Murray lies upon. MMiller805 (talk) 16:06, 22 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Zone Map Drawing C-779, filed as Document Number OO-17281

Zone Map Drawing C-779, filed as Document No. 00-17281. This official zone map drawing, can be located at the San Diego City Clerks Office. Note: Lake Murray was never ordained to be rezoned into Open Space Park. Only City owned property was ordained to be rezoned into Open Space Park. Lake Murray lies under the 100 ft. contour line. The City does not own any land under the 100 ft. contour line, of Lake Murray Reservoir, in Rancho Mission lot 67 or 68. This property is privately owned. The City acquired an easement agreement to flood this privately owned property, from Helix Irrigation District. The deed of said rights, was recorded Dec. 15, 1961, under File No. 217422. This was the Official Notice of Public Hearing Map, of the Navajo Community proposed zone changes. It was displayed at the San Diego Council Chambers, 12th floor, on April 4, 1989. This is the map that the San Diego City Council approved. Lake Murray was not included in this map, because the City did not have complete ownership of the land that Lake Murray lies upon. Zone Map Drawing C-779 was based on this map. MMiller805 (talk) 15:02, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
