Interesting detailed information around a lake, on fine sources, no copyvio obvious. The hook is sweet and brief, but I am open to other suggestions, perhaps including an image. - Please write a bit more lead, and more precise, - I think we can't say that Lake Matoaka was created in 1700 when the name was adopted in the 20th century - which might be worth saying in a hook. - I suggest that the Theater subsection goes to History rather than Description, because the description is about the lake, and history begins before the theaters. How do you feel about an infobox? I think the lake is too small on all images we have, - are you in a position to take a pic, perhaps? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:35, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: All great comments and queries. If you don't mind me commenting on these on the talk page for the article I will answer them individually there. Thanks for asking them! ~ Pbritti (talk) 17:27, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
You decide, but this template is linked there anyway, and here, we have a few more eyes watching. But entirely up to you. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:48, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: Addressed the non-DYK material on the talk page. As for including reference to the renaming in the hook, I think this might suffice:
Feel free to suggest further revision! ~ Pbritti (talk) 17:55, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Good idea, but my understanding would be that what was Lake Matoaka was named then differently. Help with that? Or is it my lack of English? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:49, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think you might be a bit confused here but that's ok, Gerda Arendt. The Alt1 hook states that Lake Matoaka had its name changed so that it would be named for Pocahontas. If you're still a bit confounded, I can look at it again. ~ Pbritti (talk) 19:33, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
"Lake Matoaka was renamed" tells me it was Lake Matoaka and got a new name. No? I'd expect "the university's lake was renamed Lake Matoaka in honor ...". You can hopefully explain what I got wrong. - I also moved the line below. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:42, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Then I'd refer you to my initial submission. Lake Matoaka is named in honor of Pocahontas using her Powhatan name "Matoaka." A hook, so long as it is correct, can be a tad ambiguous to elicit interest from potential viewers.~ Pbritti (talk) 20:48, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
The original is approved, and does that. I don't think the other is better, - too ambiguous for my taste ;) - Please keep your posts in DYK templates above the closing curlies. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:31, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions and questions edit

Below is a quote from Gerda Arendt of suggestions and questions arising during the DYK nomination process:

Interesting detailed information around a lake, on fine sources, no copyvio obvious. The hook is sweet and brief, but I am open to other suggestions, perhaps including an image. - Please write a bit more lead, and more precise, - I think we can't say that Lake Matoaka was created in 1700 when the name was adopted in the 20th century - which might be worth saying in a hook. - I suggest that the Theater subsection goes to History rather than Description, because the description is about the lake, and history begins before the theaters. Good questions and suggestions. I'll look into expanding the lede, perhaps breaking some of the ideas into separate sentences. I think an infobox is unnecessary here, as the publicly available information that would be used in an infobox is summarized in the text block. Given the construction of the lake occurred in the 1700s and it was simply renamed, I think it is appropriate to say it was created then. Unfortunately, I am unable to take additional photos at present and the nature of the foliage surrounding Lake Matoaka is somewhat prohibitive to taking a panoramic photo (trust me, I tried). I think moving the amphitheater section is appropriate. ~ Pbritti (talk) 17:52, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

I trust you ;) - compare Lake Monomonac. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:53, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
