Is this song really called Lady Franklin's Lament? edit

I have never heard this called anything other than Lord Franklin. The opening: 'Swinging in my hammock...' suggests that the singer is a seaman rather than Lady Franklin; I doubt that Lady Franklin ever slept in hammock. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.105.46.22 (talk) 19:01, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Probably because of the "10.000 Pounds I'd freely give" line. What sailor has 10,000 Pounds? Pustelnik (talk) 23:57, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
See references. Also known as "The Sailor's Dream".Pustelnik (talk) 21:14, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Certainly the version by Martin Carthy is called simply "Lord Franklin". Martinevans123 (talk) 19:24, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
The point of view of the song changes -- early versions opened and closed with stanzas from Lady Franklin's viewpoint, with the middle stanzas from a sailor's perspective. Martin Carthy's version, which is the most common today, shrunk it from 11 stanzas to 4, and hence the confusion. You can see an early print here:[1] Clevelander96 (talk) 19:36, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
That's a very useful link and one that would be a real bonus to the article, I think. Is it dated at all? It does indeed seem that most of the song is from Lady Franklin's viewpoint. I see also this version does not have the "Eskimo in his skin canoe" - was that an addition my Carthy himself? (I'd be surprised) Martinevans123 (talk) 19:44, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

List of recordings edit

21 of the artists listed do not have Wikipedia articles and are thus, on the face of it, are non-notable. Nor can I find any mention of them in any other articles. Should they be removed? Should they be supported with sources or removed? Martinevans123 (talk) 19:22, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Just because some of the artists don't meet notability requirements doesn't make the listing non-notable -- but it could be deleted on the basis of its constituting an overly long "in popular culture" section. Clevelander96 (talk) 19:38, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm not suggesting deleting the entire list, just some pruning. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:11, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
