Specificity

edit

After giving this subject some more thought, I think it would be more desireable -- and quite feasible -- to further split up articles like this one. For example, one for supralabials and one for sublabials. This article will remain to tie them together. --Jwinius 17:51, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Let it grow to the size it needs splitting. More mtrl reqd on these scales. Images are relatively easy to come by but facts about these various groups of scales? AshLin 17:56, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I don't for a moment think that there is ever going to be much material on these types of scales. You could, for instance, collect more images of the labial scales of different species, but that wouldn't really tell you much more than is necessary. Remember that these articles are not really an end in themselves, but a means to an end: ultimately to serve over 3000 snake articles. I decided that, when reading through a randon snake article and being confronted with the various scalation terms, I would rather be able to click on any one of the terms and get a very specific explanation, than be sent to a larger article that covers a range of related terms.
On the other hand, it would still be nice to have larger articles to tie the smaller ones together, such as Ocular scales, Labial scales or Crown scales (and, of course, there would always be a link to the Snake scales article). So, I suppose I shouldn't suggest that articles like this one actually be split up; just that even more specific ones also be created (i.e. Upper labial scales and Lower labial scales).--Jwinius 23:43, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
