Clean-up

To Ambi's edit summary: I deemed the article atrocious at the time due to the many spelling, grammatical and other errors present in the article. The university's very name was in most places spelled incorrectly! --cj | talk 16:00, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Oh dear. Have these been fixed? Ambi 22:42, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
I did a quick copy-edit before tagging it, and corrected most occurances. As I have more time, I'll review the article again.--cj | talk 06:05, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

I have marked the logo as lacking source info. A new logo should probably be sourced with proper source and fair use rational. --Martyman-(talk) 02:25, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

African Research Institute closure

I added a sentence re the recent closure of ARI. This is significant given its high reputaton and the fact it is apparently the only such body in Australasia.

In adding it to the history section it appears that that section could use some reorganization, perhaps under subheadings. Just a suggetion. --A12n 23:47, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

I wondered whether you could please include some evidence that it closed down. It's not that I don't believe you, but all information should be attributed to reliable sources. I looked at the obvious place (the ARI's homepage) and couldn't find anything about the closure. Thanks. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 05:04, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
I read of it on H-Africa (the main African studies list on H-Net) in a message dated 30 March 2007. Just checked the ARI page per your note and note that the last annual report was for 2005. I would agree that more info / sources would be helpful. --A12n 01:42, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

8 May 2007 incident

While most of the information is correct, none is backed up by any sources. Our verifiability policy applies: The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. At the moment, it is not verifiable. Furthermore, a minute-by-minute account is not suitable for an encyclopaedia. It is quite likely that the whole incident shouldn't be included. It will make the news today and tomorrow, but (depending on how everything evolves) it may well be forgotten in ten years' time. In the current form, it's a story for wikinews, but not for wikipedia. That's why I'm removing it. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 04:43, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree that this shouldn't be in the article - it's probably not that notable an event in the history of the university. However, removing it on verifiability grounds is complete nonsense - if you needed that, you could have gone straight to Google News and taken your pick of any major newspaper in the country. There have been few violent incidents in the history of the university, given the national coverage it is recieving it seems to be notable. Hell, the first I knew about the incident (being a latrobe student and in a building next to the library at the time) was when I logged onto here and saw the change someone from our students domain had added. ViridaeTalk 07:24, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

When I first removed the information, no sources were available (except for an internal e-mail). Even now, no source is listed and I can't see what information is correct and verifiable. I'm pretty sure that some parts are wrong (e.g., the gender of the person arrested). At least make some effort to verify the stuff; WP:BLP and all that.

But the main reason why I removed the information is that we're an encyclopaedia and not a news site. There have been more violent incidents; apparently somebody was shot on the campus six or eight years ago. That has never been in the article and I don't think it's a big part of the history of La Trobe (though I'm sure it will resurface now), so I think the same will happen to this. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 07:51, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I've added it to List of school related attacks. I don't think it's necessary on this page anymore unless we add a section about violence on campus citing the incident at Eagle Bar and the library. Cherries Jubilee 08:12, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:La Trobe University.JPG

Image:La Trobe University.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

THES

was just checking the stats at thes: http://www.topuniversities.com/schools/data/school_profile/default/latrobeuniversity and comparing them with other universities (such as RMIT) are these numbers correct and up to date? just seems to have a few inconsistencies with my knowledge...202.137.101.20 (talk) 14:02, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Not sure, havent seen any university published stats in a while. ViridaeTalk 08:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Campuses

I'm planning on splitting the campuses into separate articles as per other Australian universities, and providing a summary of each on this article instead of the long list. I'll try to clean the poor grammar as I go. Phnomenon (talk) 06:43, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

I have been employed by La Trobe University. I will no longer contribute to these pages due to conflict of interest. Phnomenon (talk) 12:15, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Updating La Trobe Page

Hi!

I am slowly attempting to update and expand the La Trobe University page. I have extensive knowledge and personal experience of La Trobe, as well as a reasonable comprehension of the history of higher education in Melbourne. Due to time constraints I have been including segments of information from La Trobe histories and documents available to me, as well as bits of information here and there. Gradually I'll attempt to streamline it and make it more presentable, hopefully adding some more sources along the way. I am new to Wikipedia editing so apologies if I don't use the 'right protocols' as it were.

As it is an Australian article, I'll be using '-ise', '-isation', '-ising' instead of '-ize' or 'yze' (e.g emphasise, analyse, realisation) and '-our' instead of 'or' (e.g. flavour, colour). I know that this has been the preference of La Trobe, so please refrain from converting them.

In line with the La Trobe histories I'll eventually be dividing the history section up into 'eras', consisting of 25 year periods. So after 'Background' and 'Establishment' there will be the 'First era' (1964-1989), 'Second era' (1989-2014) etc.

Chime in where you can :)

Notable graduates

I've removed the prose from the notable graduates section. This had taken up a lot of space in the article, was almost entirely uncited, and included many people that are not even notable enough for a Wikipedia article. A link to the comprehensive, better cited list is now at the bottom, in a similar style to other large universities.

A short paragraph describing the number of noble laureates, or other major awards, would be useful (example). Please feel free to add. Mamyles (talk) 21:57, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
