Origin of the Colorado River
editI changed the reference to the origin of the Colorado River from La Poudre Pass Lake, to simply the meadow in the pass south of the divide. This is based upon personal observation on the ground, and upon recent satellite imagery. I have discussed this further in the talk section of La Poudre Pass Lake. I have reverted a recent change that added La Poudre Pass Lake as the origin of the Colorado River. La Poudre Pass Lake may have existed in the past, but it is no longer there. Satellite views confirm, and provide reference for, my on-the-ground observation of this fact in a 2000 visit. It may have been a beaver pond, which has filled in to become a meadow, as naturally happens with many beaver ponds. Current satellite view shows the Colorado River (a tiny meandering creek here) flowing southward into the dry land area where La Poudre Pass Lake previously existed. https://www.google.com/maps/place/40%C2%B028'36.0%22N+105%C2%B049'24.0%22W/@40.4739238,-105.8255685,197m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d40.476667!4d-105.823333?hl=en I have previously indicated this in the talk page for La Poudre Pass Lake. By the way, that body of water in the top left of that satellite view is a borrow pit from the repair of the 2003 Grand Ditch failure, which does not drain into the Colorado River or anything else. - Reworded a bit as the lake seems ephemeral perhaps, but it is depicted on the 1958 to 1985 USGS quadrangle maps. Vsmith (talk) 03:18, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
"To visit the pass, follow Long Draw Road south from its junction with State Highway 14..."
editGoogle Street View shows a closed gate at the entrance. It would be unfortunate if someone drove a long way only to find this.

- I didn't have any trouble getting up there in August 2014 though it's wise to check beforehand, as it only reopened to the public the day before I visited. Mr Larrington (talk) 05:13, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
Long Draw Road is only open in the summer, which at this elevation can be shorter than expected. Perhaps only the month of August. Check with the USFS web site for road opening information. RogerD (talk) 18:27, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
