Please, before someone puts nonsense about the architectural history of this building on the web, READ MY BOOK; It's about the (first) standard work about the building history of this opera house. Name

Is this article under the right name? I say yes and no at the same time. The name used by the official website is both La Monnaie as the double name La Mannaie / De Munt. For both names is something to say as the title.

The English name Royal Theatre of La Monnaie is used, but not frequently. Here an example of it. The full French name is only used on the French language page, see here and here not on the English ones see here and here. On the last one they use the English name without the 'of'.

I would say that since themself do not use the full French name in English not to use this name on the English Wikipedia. I do say there is nothing wrong with current name 'La Monnaie', the same goes for 'La Monnaie / De Munt'. The full English is less used, so I would say fine not use this for the article name. But using the full name in an article that's naming the theatre its more preferred to use the full English name than the French or Dutch one. Edit: Tim riley suggested on my talk page to use simply 'La Monnaie' can be good as well. I agree, maybe sometimes 'theatre of' 'La Mannaise' can be used as well.

Yes, we must use the form that "predominate[s] in English-language reliable sources" per WP:UE. If we keep "La Monnaie", then it needs to be corrected by deleting the repetitious definite article "the" in all the articles that say "the La Monnaie" to just "La Monnaie". The Fifth edition of Baker calls it; Theatre de la Monnaie, [1]. But this is a bit of a old source. Same goes for the other ones mentioned. So it can be a bit outdated.

Bram van Oostveldt uses the full french name as the title on his English book for Ghent University on this subject, but also uses uses 'the Monnaie' in it more frequently.

Brusselsmuseums calls it Royal Theatre of La Monnaie, also Music & Opera. The Brussels Times uses 'La Monnaie/De Munt Theatre' in a article about honoring a conductor.

'The La Monnaie' is pretty common as well but maybe more with non native English writers. But maybe also 'La Monnaie' is more seen as a own brand name, so then the maybe makes a bit more sense. But do understand the point for Wikipedia itself it makes more sense to use 'La Monnaie' instead 'the La Monnaie'. DagneyGirl (talk) 13:45, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank you. I fixed some of the extra "the", but often it was a phrase such as "the La Monnaie theatre" - I'd try to avoid it, but "the" in this case belongs to "theatre". How to call the theatre or company in an article depends on context. "La Monnaie" without further explanation but a link makes perfect sense when saying that a singer performed there, while in historic articles (about Brussels, architecture ...) a more formal name may be the right thing to do. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:00, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

I suggest that rather more important than the nomenclature is the fact that most of the article is entirely uncited. I suggest giving it a week for any interested editor to add references and then deleting all uncited material. Happy to do the necessary. Tim riley talk 22:11, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
