The section "The passing of the 1984 Telecommunications Act came into effect under UK Law, prohibiting broadcasts from all unlicensed radio stations, thus making it very difficult for G3OUL to continue broadcasting, and more than likely leaving no choice but to cease all broadcasts from the Guild" Is factually incorrect. G3OUL was a properly licenced amateur radio station. Amateur Radio Stations do not "broadcast" i.e. transmit messages for general reception by multiple listeners. Amateur radio transmissions consist of contacts between other licenced radio amateurs only - although anyone can listen in. There are millions of radio amateurs worldwide and worldwide contacts would have been normal. Today there is amateur radio on the international space station and we have many satellites in orbit. We also use the internet and gps linked to radio. Licenced radio amateurs are the only group licenced to design and build their own equipment. Amateur radio is a fun, exciting, and popular technical hobby and volunteer public service that uses designated radio frequencies for the non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, and emergency communications.
