ANC support for Constitutional inclusion?

I apologise if this is just ignorance on my part (and, granted, this isn't exactly an area I'm much knowledgeable about) but I'm not aware of the ANC having supported same-sex marriage during the early 1990s. Is this a mistake or...? Also, the party is not unmixed on the issue of homosexuals - what about now-President Zuma's previous statements, as just one example? There is bias here. The "Post-Apartheid" section gives far too much (unsourced) credit to the ANC when in fact actual opposition to LGBT rights in Parliament and during the CODESSA period only came from a few small conservative parties. In fact the official opposition Democratic Alliance has been consistently (and persistently) supportive of LGBT rights to a much greater extent than any of the "liberation-oriented" parties, including the ANC. The Bill of Rights - 1993 - included an anti-discrimination clause on the basis of sexual orientation. But it doesn't say anything about same-sex marriage. We can fairly say that the ANC supported a prohibition on discrimination. Without some more we can't say that the ANC expressly supported SSM. - htonl (talk) 20:37, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

Same sex marriage was only legalised after a ruling by the constitutional court forced the government to change the law, in a case in which the government lawyers actually argued against legalisation. Well exactly. I don't want to edit the article myself because of my declared conflict of interest in the area of party politics. But I propose that section should read something like:

During the negotiations to end apartheid in the early 1990s, several parties proposed draft Bills of Rights to be included in a new constitution. The drafts produced by the African National Congress, the Democratic Party and the Inkatha Freedom Party all included provisions explicitly prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. The draft proposed by the National Party did not explicitly mention sexual orientation but prohibited discrimination on the basis of "natural characteristics". The Interim Constitution which came into force in 1994 explicitly included sexual orientation in its anti-discrimination provision. This provision was kept in the final constitution, approved in 1996, due to the lobbying efforts of LGBT South Africans organised in the National Coalition for Gay and Lesbian Equality. Blood donation issue

The section about the blood donation prohibition is just too conveniently silent about the context. South Africa at that time had the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the entire world, also a time when treatment was not as effective as now - it was not then a "live with it" chronic disease.
