Issues with relevance

A lot of the information in this article, especially the 18th-19th century is potentially beyond the scope of US LGBT history, and could have its own separate page. I think it takes away from the main points. Also the language used in the first sections is not concise enough. I think the focus needs to be brought back to Historical Events (social movements, education, laws, public health), and Figures. C.canovi (talk) 17:26, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

Actually would it be better if the page was reorganized into different sections – "(social movements, education, laws, public health), and Figures" ?

or maybe instead organized into a list of historical events and each listed historical event (it can be person place thing whatever) is in chronological order? C.canovi (talk) 17:35, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

I also think the timeline organization could be better but im not sure how C.canovi (talk) 18:42, 15 September 2022 (UTC)

Replaced pre-Obama material

I've replaced the pre-Obama history that was removed by AHC300 in December 2016, though I understand why they removed it as much of it was unsourced and essay-like. However, if the article is going to be called LGBT History in the United States it should have more than just the Obama and Trump administrations. Have deleted some of the more essay -like language and will work on referencing, since there does seem to be stuff worth keeping. Help on finding sources for the material is much appreciated. Otherwise, perhaps an entirely new article could be created on LGBT policies of Obama and/or Trump. ABF99 (talk) 18:18, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for your work ABF99! I share your skepticism of the choice made in 2016 to organize recent history by presidential administration. LGBT history is more than a list of things that the president has done. I agree that breaking some of that information out into one or more new articles would be a solution. @ABF99 I think (if it hasn't been done yet), breaking it into different pages may be useful for providing greater detail into specific actions caused during specific times/actors. One page could focus on specific government actions (ie state of Illinois, etc), political leaders (arranged by president). PurpleReindeer (talk) 21:38, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Why include words in Webster's dictionary?

I don't see the point of mentioning that pederast, buggery, sodomy, were included in Webster's dictionary. This says nothing about LGBT people at the time. These terms had surely been used for centuries and the fact that they were mentioned in the dictionary doesn't seem relevant.—Naddruf (talk ~ contribs) 03:59, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

I agree with Naddruf. If the point of mentioning the dictionary is to say idea of non-heterosexual behavior was conceptually available to Americans of the 19th century, this could be stated much more concisely.
