“dropped” edit

It didn’t exactly drop in the conventional sense of that word’s meaning – if it had simply dropped people would not have been thrown upwards out of their seats to hit the ceiling. A word is needed which conveys the sense of being violently thrust downwards. A “sudden rapid descent”? Springnuts (talk) 17:34, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

switch design edit

It seems to be a design issue. Why is the switch on the top of the back of the pilot's seat, where the pilot, when seated, could not reach it? Also, that location of the switch does present a risk of it being accidentally hit by another person in the cockpit - safety cover, or no safety cover - such that the pilot would be physically unable to flip the switch another way. While this is a very rare event, possibly an event that had never happened before, more thought should have gone into the design of the switch and (in particular) the location of that switch. Aside from the physical design and location of the switch, it should not be at all possible for the seat to be thrust forward while the plane is in flight, with the pilot seated, presumably on auto-pilot. Redundant design should have ensured that it was impossible for the seat to move, as it apparently did, while the pilot is seated and the aircraft in cruise and, even if it did, the autopilot should have been enabled to override the abrupt dive manoeuvre - that would also help somewhat if the aircraft was hijacked, etc.
