Project Scientology article?
editIs this really a Project Scientology article? The only relationship seems to be that the comic book writers used L-Ron the robot's name to make a joke about L. Ron Hubbard's name. Does this add to our understanding of the subject of Scientology? Thanks. Steve Dufour 10:54, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- In so much as more citations need to be added to expand the reasoning behind the choice of this name and potential influences on storyline, character development/traits, so forth - yes. Smee 17:13, 23 May 2007 (UTC).
- What if we take out the uncited sentence in the article but leave the disambig to Hubbard's article? That way we recognize that there could be some connection. BTW I don't see that L-Ron and L. Ron have much in common beyond their names. :-) Steve Dufour 17:45, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- I am still looking for citations. Smee 23:50, 23 May 2007 (UTC).

- I am going to take out the uncited sentence. If you find a citation put it back. I will leave the disambig as I suggested. I think people will get the joke the comic book writer was making without our explaining it. Steve Dufour 04:56, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- This is quite obvious, factually accurate, and should be retained, and please assume good faith that I am looking for citations. Thanks. Smee 05:00, 25 May 2007 (UTC).
- If the joke is obvious do we have to explain it? :-) Steve Dufour 05:04, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- It may be obvious to us, but not to the average reader. Smee 05:26, 25 May 2007 (UTC).
- I still think it needs to be cited before we can report it as a fact. Steve Dufour 05:33, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

- Citation provided. Thank you for using polite language on the talk page, and for being patient with this. Yours, Smee 06:52, 25 May 2007 (UTC).
- See WP:LEAD, the first instance is a summary, the second instance is in more detail. Smee 21:27, 25 May 2007 (UTC).
- Have it the way you want. I don't see any information in the last section that's not in the rest of the article. Steve Dufour 01:44, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have added "sectstub", for that section to be expanded upon further... Smee 02:30, 26 May 2007 (UTC).

"...the name of..."?
editThe article starts: "L-Ron is the name of a fictional character in the DC Comics universe." Why not just say: "L-Ron is a fictional character in the DC Comics universe."? Am I missing something? Steve Dufour 17:09, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I went ahead and took the stuff about his name out of the introduction. All the infomation is still in the "name" section. Steve Dufour 18:28, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- See WP:LEAD. The lead is a summary of the article. I will go ahead and restore this highly relevant info that is a summary of info that then appears later in the article. Smee 23:47, 26 May 2007 (UTC).
The information about his name being a take-off of Hubbard's name is not a major part of the article. Maybe about 5%. But you have made it about 25% of the lead by repeating the whole thing there. And please also explain why the article should be about the name of the robot, not the robot himself. Thank you. Steve Dufour 04:50, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- As the article itself expands, more info will be added to the lead, to summarize the article. And the article should be about both the name of the robot, and the robot itself. Smee 04:56, 27 May 2007 (UTC).
- While you are at it, since you seem to be on a roll here, please explain why this article is of mid-importance in the study of Scientology. Steve Dufour 05:02, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Importance changed to "Low". And your last edit is a good compromise. Smee 05:25, 27 May 2007 (UTC).
- Thanks for doing that. Steve Dufour 06:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- No worries. Smee 06:11, 27 May 2007 (UTC).
- Thanks for doing that. Steve Dufour 06:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- The article is about the character. It is not named L-Ron and why anyone would name a character L-Ron. Doczilla 06:12, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yip, sounds good. And the state of the article at present is a good compromise. Smee 06:13, 27 May 2007 (UTC).
POV sentence
editI removed this for now: (It was heavily implied that the gaseous entity had an unrequited crush on his former lackey.)
That's a matter of interpretation. Unless someone can cite a source saying the creator intentionally implied it, we can't say that in encyclopedic entry. State the facts. Doczilla 07:37, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. In general we could use expansion with additional citations for this article... Smee 07:38, 27 May 2007 (UTC).
Full name
editAs far as I recall, the name of the character is merely "L-Ron". The "last name" of H*bb*rd was a fan suggestion in a lettercol, that whomever was answering the letters that month said something like: "yeah, just like that: H*bb*rd". Considering in a similar situation in the Flash lettercolumn involving the Killg%re in which they certified 3 different pronunciations (including kilgore, and kilgree), I don't think that we should say that that is L-Ron's name without additional verification. And further, does anyone have any reference proving that L-Ron refers to Mr. Hubbard of scientology fame? - jc37 23:40, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm confident that L-Ron really is named after Mr. Hubbard. Steve Dufour 00:01, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Personally, I think your confidence in your opinion is great, however, since this is an encyclopedia, we need references showing it. I personally don't care if he is or isn't, I just want actual referenced proof. - jc37 00:35, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- The cited reference [1] is verifiable to the information, but it would help to expand the article with more citations, yes. Smee 00:07, 3 June 2007 (UTC).
- Except that it's essentially little better than a fan site, and likely got its information from the same lettercolumn I described. - jc37 01:36, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- I understand that this is referenced, but the reference is flat-out wrong, and I've forawarded a note to the site pointing this out. I own every appearance of L-Ron through the 90's (I was a big JLI fan) and can guarantee that the only reference to his last name was in a lettercolumn, where it was dismissed by the collumn's respondent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.8.150.32 (talk) 16:01, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Current Whereabouts
editIn the Metal Men mini series by Duncan and Rouleau, L-Ron appears as a member of the U.N.I.O.N. .2 Generation, with Warbox and Manhunter Lud and Body X. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sp33df0rc3 (talk • contribs) 19:47, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Magna Khan
editHaving reread some old stories, it seems he's also romantically involved with Khan. Have any of the writers confirmed this? Lots42 (talk) 23:12, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
