I am surprised that the article still says that Cyriacus invaded Egypt in 722AD which has no historical backing at all. Read the History of the Patriarch of the Coptic Church, which is attributed to Severus of Ashmunin. The invasion happened around 750AD. Read the Live of Khail (743-768AD). Kyriakos could not have invaded Egypt in 722. According to the Coptic writer John the Deacon (which his Life of Khail, the Coptic Patriarch from 743 to 768 form part of the History of the Patriarchs of the Egyptian Church attributed to Severus of Ashmunin) the inasion happened during the reign of the Abassid Caliph, Marwan the II (744-750) and his Egypt'd Governor Abdel Malik (749-750). The invasion happened in the first part of 750 AD to free the Coptic Patriarch Khael (who is also called Michael I).

This may be correct (Budge is not a careful author), but this is not integrated into the article, argumentative, & not clearly sourced. (Where is this "History of the Patriarchs of the Egyptian Church attributed to Severus of Ashmunin" to be found?) -- llywrch 23:37, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've since been able to find a copy of Severus' work, & have updated the article accordingly. -- llywrch 02:37, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
the date of the campaign was around 748 (Derek A. Welsby: The Medieval Kingdoms of Nubia. London 2002, 73, ISBN 0-7141-1947-4). This also fits the date of the Patriarchs of the Egyptian. -- Udimu (talk) 18:09, 18 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
