On the removed translations

edit

The translated titles were removed as they "were unsourced". Isn't that a little bit silly? I mean, should we source Ivar Aasen for cooking up the written language of Nynorsk? I also don't necessarily understand the rest of the edit, as simply removing information seems counterproductive but I suppose that's more debatable. --pred (talk) 20:53, 8 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I was the one who removed this content. All information on Wikipedia must be verifiable. While the Album Project supports translated titles in track listings, a source must also be present. From archived discussions: "As long as the translations are verifiable and legitimate, there shouldn't be much of a problem,"[1] and "Good point—sourcing IS an issue (I defer to the label of origin when an official translation already exists), and a procedure for accurate translation is in the scope of other Projects and, to my knowledge, not tracked by this Project (viz., WPAlbums)."[2]. The rest of the information was copied and pasted directly from the liner notes. Liner notes are published and copyrighted, thus copying material from this source constitutes as plagiarism—see WP:COPYPASTE. In addition to being plagiarism, a serious offense on its own, copying/pasting just looks like slopping writing. You are welcome to extrapolate information from the liner notes, but you can't just reprint it. Plus the way it was thrown into the track listing was a horribly messy eyesore.
