Biased

This article is completely biased. In truth it has many interesting and factually accurate segments, but the overriding image created is almost that Kris Boyd wrote this himself. It should have been titled 'An Ode to Kris Boyd'. When referring to a goal which was 'harshly' ruled out for an infringement, it is hardly harshly done if an act of foul play was committed before the goal, that would make it 'fairly' ruled out. Kris Boyd is a talented young player, but this article oversteps the mark from Scottish premier to a player of the Galactica. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.107.99.112 (talkcontribs) 13:43, 23 April 2006

Regarding the disallowed goal against Dundee United, according to some observers, they believe the referee was incorrect to penalise Kilmarnock for a foul in the build up to the goal. See [1] for an example of the viewpoint that perhaps Boyd was unlucky to see a goal disallowed. Jack Parlabane 14:35, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Early Career?

"Early Career" should be changed to "Kilmarnock Career" as that is what it was. He is a product of the Killie youth system (as is Steven Naismith) both of them came through at a time when the youth were allowed to train with the first team. The hallmarks of the strikers playing for Killie at that time are evident when watching both players. These strikers included: Paul Wright, Ally McCoist, Jerome Vareille and Cristophe Cocard. The outlay for such strikers may have nearly bankrupted Killie, but it ultimately resulted in the creation of both these top goalscorers.

Statistically - he scored 68 goals for Killie in 120 starts and 50 substitute appearances. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.26.178.115 (talk) 10:34, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

SPL Goals for kilmarnock

How many goals has Boyd scored for Killie. If he scored his hundredth SPL goal last season against Celtic, that would make it 63 but all the sources I have checked state 64 in 150 odd apps. does anyone know the exact number and give a reference? --Johnelwaq (talk) 16:53, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

un-needed

He also scored a 30 yard volley against Dunfermline in the CIS cup after Allan McGregor picked him out with the ball from some 85 yards.

appearances in European competition

this article wrongly states Boyd has had two appearances for rangers in European competition this season rangers played just two games against FBK Kaunas and Boyd never played in either of them not even from the bench can I change it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.13.137.175 (talk) 02:50, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Is this really needed? It sounds like the author is trying to review the match. Unless anyone disagrees I will delete it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidbhoy2805 (talkcontribs) 00:27, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Goal credited versus Hearts

Boyd keeps being credited on this page with an extra goal, scored against Hearts on the 29th of November, 2008. According to the Scotsman newspaper the referees report credits him with the goal [2], however I have provided a number of other sources which show it as a own goal by a Hearts player, BBC, Soccerbase, the Scottish Premier League and the Official Rangers site. The official Rangers site also lists Boyd's goals as being one fewer than it would be if he had scored the goal, so the balance of the available sources indicates that he didn't score the goal.

If you want to credit him with the goal then feel free to discuss it here. Please don't just delete the references which show he didn't score. srushe (talk) 18:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Overall you have some great info. I'm probably going to go through the article a couple of times but my initial notes are below. It might look like a whole lot but I don't expect any clean-up to take much time. Nice work and I look forward to promoting this within no more than a few days.Cptnono (talk) 09:44, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

  • Annoying as it is, all quotations must be directly cited, like "quotation"<footnote> if the are in the middle of a sentence, even if the sentence has a citation at the end of the sentence. WP:CITE#When quoting someone. "Kris has got to establish himself in the Rangers team, which he hasn't done." Cptnono (talk) 09:44, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
  • Template:Persondata should be added Cptnono (talk) 09:44, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
  • Early life should be expanded. Are there any feature stories to go off of?
  • The information provided is great but it is choppy. I'm going to read it through a few more times and see if there is anything that can be done. It looks like you have the perfect base for the information (which I consider of higher importance), though.
  • wikilinks are all good
  • It looks like there might be a couple of things needed on reference links per [3]. I don't mind grabbing that if it looks like a pain in the ass.
  • Removed duplicate wikilinks in history of Scottish and League Cups (only one needed per section)
  • BBC in the references is listed as both "BBC News" and "BBC Sport website" as the publisher. Maybe change these all to "BBC" or BBC Sport? The publisher is not usually the name of the website (that is usually the work). This is another fix that is mind numbing and I don't mind doing it if it is OK with you.
  • "Career statistics" does not have a source but notes that it is as of 8 October 2009. What is the source?
  • Boyd's form during the 2005-06 attracted interest from English Championship sides Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday; however, despite GBP£500,000 offers from both clubs, Boyd rejected the moves.[4] might be better as simply "Boyd's form during the 2005-06 attracted interest from English Championship sides Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday. Boyd rejected the moves despite GBP£500,000 offers from both clubs."
  • In January 2009, speculation surfaced about a possible move to Birmingham City to play for former Rangers manager, Alex McLeish. Rangers accepted a £3 million bid; however, Boyd could not agree personal terms and decided to stay at Rangers. Is not sourced
  • Le Guen left the club days later and was replaced by the then Scotland manager Walter Smith. Boyd scored a double in Smith's first game back at Ibrox against Dundee United, and a month later scored a hat-trick against former club Kilmarnock in a 3–1 win in February 2007. On 17 March 2007, he scored his second hat-trick of the season against Aberdeen in a 3–0 win at Ibrox. is not sourced
  • A quick caption could be used in the infobox.
  • I did a few quick searches for images but can't find anything else with the appropriate licensing. infobox image is good.

Cptnono (talk) 09:44, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

  • I've added another footnote right after the quote in question.
  • There already is a {{persondata}} section, right under the navboxes. Does something need added to it?
  • I used the best source I could find quickly to stub the early life section out: I'll see if I can find anything to expand it with. Fortuitously the Herald had an article on him at the weekend, but there's little extra detail on his early life. Found some nice refs for his first steps in the youth system though.
  • The club section suffers a little from recentism (as practically all footy bios do); I'll see if I can make sure weight is assigned by career contributions.
  • I've fixed the 404 (what newspaper goes and breaks all its permalinks in a page redesign?)
  • I'm happy to clean up the BBC links myself (I do wish the BBC would just format everything regularly itself of course).
  • Soccerbase is usually up to date, though that section is usually kept up to date manually. I really need to modify {{update}} itself to request a ref if possible...
  • I've reworded the Cardiff / Wednesday offer a little, but I'd rather keep it as one sentence (owing to WP's reputation for articles being full of six-word sentences).
  • Reference added for Birmingham offer.
  • Probably too much recentism on the unsourced goal flurry following Smith's return; I'll leave it in for now rather than hunting for references for stuff which might end up getting deleted.
  • Caption added to infobox (IIRC the template didn't actually support one when the image was first added).
  • Yeah, images were difficult; thanks be to Alex Lister for his excellent GFDL-licensed donation.

  • Oops. The template was right in front of me. I somehow missed it so disregard.Cptnono (talk) 00:45, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
I noticed that some improvement is still needed.
  • The BBC links are still not uniform.
  • There has also been some back and forth on the goals scored in the infobox. This needs a source. I saw that soccerbase is used as both an inline cite and an external link. To prevent confusion it should be used to source the number in the infobox and this reference should also be used on the line "As of 18 October 2009." in the Career statistics section.
  • Number 15 is now flagged as needing a citation. For what ever reason this is disputed so a news source should be pulled from google around the siging date
  • "Having been suspended for the first match of the 2006–07 season" should have a reasoning provided. (cards?)
  • The prose could still be adjusted for flow a little nicer but I don't think this should prevent promotion. It would certainly prevent promotion to FAC but the criteria here is designed to accommodate such an article. My biggest concern is how short the Early life section is. I just can't believe there is nothing out there. To make it more visually appealing and to conform to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players the general structure needs to be tweaked. Creating a section for Biography then relegating his personal history to subsections would make the short section stand out less.
  • Several GA player articles include information on style of play. This would add much needed information to the article and looks to be shorter on other GA articles so it should not be a challenge.
This has sat awhile without getting everything corrected and should be failed soon. I think that would be a shame since it really is so close to meeting the standards of other GA player article. See the others here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Football#Showcase#Featured content.Cptnono (talk) 21:24, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Sorry about the delay.
  • BBC refs should now be consistent.
  • Goals are now properly sourced to Soccerbase inline.
  • Can't find a reference for no. 15 shirt; removed.
  • Rationale and references added for 2006-07 suspension.
  • IMO biography articles should never have a "biography" section as the whole article is a biography. I'm loathe to collapse the playing career of a footballer (which should be the majority of the article for current players) into one section as well.
  • Style of play section added
Hope this hasn't come too late! Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 11:11, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

With a quickness and works for me. Nice work. I would love to see the early life section expanded but that will come with time when sources are found and is not out of line with other player articles. Nice work!Cptnono (talk) 15:04, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
