Authenticity
editDoes anyone have an authoritative reference for whether these really are made today in Brittany and really do represent an authentic and ancient tradition?
I can find no information online apart from stuff derived from neopagan websites, which obviously have some incentive in upholding the idea that this practice is ancient.
Even if this is happening, it's frequently the case that in these continuations of ancient religious tradition the original motivation (honouring some horned "god of winter", maybe Cernunnos?) is long forgotten even as the tradition continues. In fact in many cases the forgetting is essential to the preservation of the tradition, as avoids a religious conflict in the mind of the practitioner (who would presumably have been a nominal Christian).
If so, it would be wrong to say that everyone who's made these things is doing so to explicitly honouring a Celtic deity, whatever the initial meaning of the tradition was. --Saforrest (talk) 03:00, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Verifiability of "Kornigou"
editI have doubts about the authenticity of the information presented in this article. I've been unable to find any reliable sources or references to "Kornigou" in Breton or French websites or culinary traditions. The sole citation in the article is a dead link with no archived version available, and the "further reading" articles seem to be unrelated. The only images associated with "Kornigou" appear to be AI-generated and do not resemble the described antler shape. The article itself is nearly 20 years old, has lots of vague statements ("created by the Celts 2000 years ago", "Celtic households in Brittany", "distinctly Pagan tradition"), and it appears that many websites mentioning "Kornigou" are simply copying information from this page. Additionally, discussions of "Kornigou" are primarily limited to Neo-Pagan forums, which could also be based on misinformation from older editors on Wikipedia. 95.18.76.205 (talk) 19:31, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- See the past AfD. Probably not a hoax. Notable, maybe not, I haven't checked that one. PARAKANYAA (talk) 04:02, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
