Robert Love Taylor reference edit

I can't say that Gov. Taylor did not lead a delegation to have John Sevier's body reinterred in the lawn of the Courthouse. He was Governor in 1889 when it happened. I can say, though, that the Mary Rothrock French-Broad-Holston Country reference does not mention him in relation to the event (in fact, he never appears in the book for any reason). Stephenson and Getaz edit

"The county hired Stephenson and Getaz, a local contracting firm that specialized in hardwood mantels, to build the courthouse." This is any extremely odd way to represent Stephenson and Getaz, who were always described, as I can find, as architects and builders. David Getaz was an architect. The mantel company was a separate concern. Dr. Jim Tumblin had a nice article in the Bearden Shopper about them, but for which I can't find an online copy. I've reworded the article somewhat, without this as a reference, but since the statement already had no references, it may not be any better documented, but it is more accurate. I found a reference for Getaz as an architect (the document, Historical and Architectural Resources of Knoxville and Knox County, Tennessee, used to be somewhere online, but I couldn't find it; fortunately, I have an offline copy). Interestingly, it says Getaz "was most noted for winning the 1885 design competition for the Knox County Courthouse." Bms4880 (talk) 20:52, 6 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad to see that this bldg is still standing. As a child, I was told that one of the buildings "on the hill" served as a hospital during the civil war. Obviously not this one, built in 1885, but the informatuon came from a woman who had served as an elected county official, so I have to wonder if she spoke of an older bldg, now gone. I seem to remember a large wooden bldg, and a lot of white, peeling paint. Probably about 60 years ago. rags (talk) 15:26, 24 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
