Interracial kiss in Star Trek

edit

I have found reference to another interracial kiss which could be added to the beginning of the 'In Star Trek' section of the article. The kiss is also between two women and was broadcast in 1966 season 1, episode 7 ‘What are little girls made of’ where Uhura kisses Nurse Chapel. There is also a screenshot. The reference is: https://jerz.setonhill.edu/blog/2021/01/17/no-kirk-and-uhura-didnt-share-the-first-interracial-kiss-on-television/

A gif of the kiss, which appears to be on the cheek, can be found on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/thisismewhatevs/status/1350953844025548811

The "kisses" you reference were not only innocuous as in the case of the two women - but not reciprocated as in the case with Sulu. Also neither involved mutual lip contact. Nor did either elicit the level of concern by the television network that the Uhura/Kirk kiss did. Most importantly, neither rose to the level of significance given the historical context of race relations in the Jim Crow South at the time and the civil rights movement of the 1960s. The Kirk - Uhura kiss was also unimportant until Trekkies incorrectly hyped it up as being the first interracial kiss on television.Newzild (talk) 07:00, 8 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have added a link to a comprehensive article explaining the history of the kiss.

An anonymmous and unsourced blog post is not a reliable source. X4n6 (talk) 09:16, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
