Heraldry

The arms of the Kings of Majorca shown here were never used in Majorca in the Middle Age. A cote of arms similar to this is seen in a few number of copies of the engravings of the exequies of the emperor Charles V (Brussels, december 1558), designed by H. Cock, engraved by the brothers Duetcum and printed by C. Plantin. Those copies bear a bend added on the original arms. The original arms, as described and painted in other places, are Gules four billets or (for instance in Gelre Roll). But the oldest roll, the Wijnbergen Roll (1265 – 1270) show gules four bitllets or, with a bend atzur. In Majorca their kings used the same arms that their relatives the Kings of Catalonia-Aragon (Or four bitllets gules) (Ramon Rosselló Vaquer, La bandera, l'escut..., Separata del setmanari Felanitx, núms. 2230-2234 (gener-febrer 1981, Ed. Ramon Llull, Mallorca, 1981). The bend was a brisure applied by the kings of Majorca during their wars against their relatives and in the Continent. Antoni I. The Arms of the kings of Mallorca were : Or, three billets Gules. It is ampliously shown in the seals and coins of the kings. One well-known reference is the Sigillografia Catalana de Ferran de Sagarra i de Siscar. The arms with brisure were a posterior creation. 84.99.251.44 18:07, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Better Map?

The map that is presently displayed is somewhat misleading; however, it's the best that I could find to give some geographical reference. The map is of the Balearic Islands, and the Kingdom included other lands. Can someone update it with the information in the article?

If it helps, http://www.roman-emperors.org/big1300.htm has a big map that may be helpful in locating the boundaries of the Kingdom. Besides the islands, you can see a chunk of mainland territory in southern France and northern Spain, and a little enclave further up the French coast around Montpellier. The Kingdom of Mallorca was only the Balearic Islands, the map is from the CROWN of Mallorca, not the Kingdom. DavidAlcover 01:44, 27 February 2014

Privative?

What is the basis for the repeated use of the word "privative" in this article? The only meaning I am familiar with is "causing a loss", "depriving". Is there a citation for this, or is it a neologism? - Jmabel | Talk 23:53, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I did the translation of the article from the Spanish Wikipedia; it probably is a mistranslation. The Spanish word in question is privativo, which Google Translator translated as "privative". The several online dictionaries I consulted couldn't offer me a translation (let alone a better one), so that's what I put in. Logomancer 18:35, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Title

What is the basis for calling this the "Kingdom of Majorca" rather than the "Kingdom of Mallorca"? The Google test strongly favors the latter and our article on the island itself is Mallorca. - Jmabel | Talk 23:57, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Because 1) "Majorca" is the generally accepted English spelling, and 2) Mallorca is redirected to Majorca. Logomancer 18:37, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

List of Kings

I take issue with the list of kings being removed. Many of the separate king articles (particularly the Aragonian kings) have very little content regarding their reign of the Kingdom of Majorca. Given that it's not that big of a reign and it's a substantial part of the article, I think we should put it back in. Logomancer 18:49, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

I don't understand your comments. The kings' biographies ought to be expanded, but there is no reason to turn an article on a kingdom into an assemblage of biographies. Srnec 18:59, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Pronunciation

The pronunciation is totally right. The sound ŋ is the velar nasal one, not as règne in French, or regno in Italian (this is written ɲ, and it's palatal, not nasal). --83.44.47.91 (talk) 10:29, 11 September 2014 (UTC) (Enric form Catalan Wikipedia).

The kingdom of Mallorca (only island territories) was an legal entity that existed between 1230 and 1715, this article discusses of the Crown of Mallorca (includes continental territories), medieval state that existed between 1276 and 1343/49.
